Prologue: A gorgeous blonde and a rugged Latino man meet for coffee and tea at Slowpoke. The captivating woman shares information about teaching, and conversation is enjoyable for both. Act 1. Our lead, Ashleigh, is encouraged by her friend Sara to invite the boy, Joaquin, to join her at Fall in Love with the East End, an art event in EaDo. They get along swimmingly as they tour the art exhibits. Near the end of the day, Joaquin’s family makes a surprise appearance at Ironworks and ropes the leads into a long coffee hangout and then a pizza family dinner. Scene Change: The boy has a lovely time at the event and texts the girl the next morning to go on a proper date. She leaves him on “read” for 4 hours. This is distressing for the boy, but eventually, she accepts. Act 2. *cue Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows as scenes fly by* They go on their first date, on Valentine's Day no less, and from there, more dates follow at coffee shops, symphonies, museums, and dinner dates at home. There is a slight hiccup when, at six months, instead of celebrating their time together, Joaquin gets Covid, but he still manages to deliver a lovely gift at her doorstep, while keeping his distance to not get her sick. Intermission: The couple spends different holidays with family and friends, celebrating weddings, traveling to Portland, Austin, and Galveston. Act 3. During a work trip to D.C. by Ashleigh, our intrepid gentleman plans a proposal. He joins his sister in D.C. for her own event and rallies Ashleigh’s parents to come participate in the proposal. He keeps a straight face as he distracts Ashleigh from the preparations, and on a clear and cool day in D.C., while visiting the Library of Congress, he asks her to marry him. She asks if “it’s for real” (several times) but eventually agrees. Everyone cries.
