Our Story

Over 15 years ago, Artangia laid eyes on Rickey for the first time and thought, "Damn, he looks good for his age." What she didn’t know then was that this man would one day become her partner in a love story rooted in growth, forgiveness, and divine timing. Rickey, now 74, remembers that first moment too — not because of what she said, but because of what he felt: "I needed to know who she was." Their journey began not with a traditional date but with an act of togetherness — Rickey and his son moving in with Artangia. It was unorthodox, but it was real. Yet, like many stories, theirs had its hardships. Rickey admits that he didn’t know how to handle the love of a good woman and let fear guide his actions, walking away without a word and causing pain in the process. But God, as Rickey says, "is always in the midst." Fifteen years later, life brought him back to Portland — never knowing that their lives would cross paths once again. At a celebration of his sobriety, Rickey was reunited with Artangia. She walked through the door, and in that moment, his heart knew: "God, please let me back in her life. I love her." Since then, they’ve been inseparable — two people who think alike, act alike, and love without chaos or confusion. “No yelling, no screaming — ever,” Rickey says. It’s a love that’s matured with time and one that now includes a beautiful blended family that calls him Dad — not by obligation, but by love. They never had the traditional proposal, no flashy ring at first, but Rickey made sure that when the time came, his love was shown with sincerity and surprise. “It had to be shown from the heart,” he says. This is not just a love story. It's a testimony — of second chances, divine alignment, and a love that was never lost, only waiting for the right time to be fully realized.
