Written by: Mushtaq Dualeh Edited by: Iman Naim بِسْمِ ٱللّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Dearest gentle reader, One would hardly believe it if told that our heroine, Miss Aroona Toor, scholar, worldly dreamer, and changemaker, born in Lahore and raised in the heartland of St. Louis, would one day fall head over heels for a gentleman from Karachi who regards Hanover, Maryland as if it were Disneyworld itself and speaks of BWI with the reverence one might reserve for a national treasure. And yet, fall she did. For then came Mr. Haris Arshad. Mr. Arshad, a proud son of Maryland by way of Karachi, is a gentleman whose calm exterior hides a sly cleverness. He is quietly brilliant, though his humor has a habit of arriving sideways, often in the form of a perfectly timed joke that leaves Miss Toor rolling her eyes even as she laughs. By trade, he is an IT consultant; by discipline, a black belt in karate; by obsession, a walking sports almanac with an inconvenient loyalty to the Wizards; and by heart, a most devoted Swiftie. He is also the man who insists Miss Toor remain his “passenger princess” while he drives an hour and a half to see her (one way). And what of Miss Toor? Ah, she is the spark. The youngest of four, she has long been the dreamer, the connector, our darling Aroona weaves communities together in every city she graces. From St. Louis to Atlanta to DC, she doesn't just move somewhere, she becomes it. Currently pursuing her doctorate (because brilliance apparently needed certification), she's the rare breed who can deliver groundbreaking public health research and still remember your birthday and show up for those she loves. Thoughtful, inquisitive, ever the seeker of truth, she is a force of both heart and mind. But don't think she's all sweetness and light, she's the sort who asks the questions that need asking, seeks truths others might find inconvenient, and has the rather endearing (if occasionally infuriating) tendency to be right about most things. How did these two find each other? Not in one grand cinematic moment, dear reader, but slowly, like verses building into a chorus: in teasing remarks that became inside jokes, in the long drives where Miss Toor happily claimed her spot as passenger princess, in grocery runs and everyday errands that somehow felt like little adventures. It grew in the countless small choices to show up for each other, to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary. What began as opposites occasionally sparring transformed into balance. He is the Slytherin to her Gryffindor, the Swiftie to her side-eye (and yes, he will defend Taylor Swift’s 1989 album as though it were sacred scripture), he is a man who makes space for her boundless dreams. She is the spark who nudges him into adventure, who makes his calm feel electric. What they’ve built, gentle reader, is like a perfect playlist: hers alive with 2000s anthems and Disney and Bollywood ballads, his overflowing with Taylor Swift classics. And somehow, impossibly, they play in harmony. Together they pen the very best kind of Love Story (Aroona and Haris’ Version). It is a love that feels, in every season, like the most exquisite of bridges. The one you cannot help but sing along to, loud and unashamed, windows down, laughter spilling into the wind as the world rushes past in shades of autumn gold. Welcome, gentle reader, to the Haris and Aroona Era. May Allah bless their marriage, place barakah in their union, fill their home with mercy and joy, and grant them a love that leads them together to Jannah. Ameen.

You may be able to find Pakistani/Indian clothing stores in your local city. However, for those looking for affordable online shopping, we’ve gathered a few recommendations. While we haven’t personally ordered from all of these sites, our friends have had good experiences with them: - www.lashkaraa.com - www.utsavfashion.com - www.perniaspopupshop.com - https://www.azafashions.com - Etsy and amazon also has some options You can search using terms like: “desi dresses,” “Pakistani lehenga,” “Pakistani wedding guest outfits,” “men’s shalwar kameez,” or “men’s kurta pajama.” Please note: online sizing can vary quite a bit since desi outfits are often tailored. Be sure to order in advance and allow extra time for shipping (4–8 weeks is common). For ladies: if you’d prefer not to purchase an outfit, I am more than happy to lend you one if the sizing works out. If you’re interested in this option, please reach out to Aroona!
All colors are welcome! For the Henna, we recommend bright and festive outfits — think colorful prints in mustard, orange, hot pink, purple, teal, or green. For the Shalima, since it’s in the fall, darker tones are typically the vibe.
Please check the Travel tab for recommendations. Both venues are in the greater St. Louis area. We have secured a hotel block at the Hampton Inn O'Fallon (walking distance of Shalima venue). Link to book is coming soon. However, you can secure an Airbnb or Hotel anywhere in the area.
Nikkah: Our religious marriage ceremony (Nikkah) will take place on Friday. It will be a very intimate, family only event. Henna: During the Henna, the bride's arms, hands, and feet will be covered in henna, which is Pakistani tradition. The bride and groom will have special entrances with their families and friends. After dinner, there will be dance performances and an open dance floor. Shalima: During the Shalima (Wedding Reception), the bride and groom will have special entrances. The program will begin with a welcome duaa (prayer). There will be speeches from the bride and grooms family and friends. Before the end of the night, the bride and groom will participate in Jhoota Chupai, which translates to "hiding of the shoes" in Urdu. During this activity, the bride's family and friends sneakily 'steal' the shoes off the groom, and the groom's side leads a bargaining negotiation with the bride's side to get them back. At the end of the reception, the bride's family initiates the Rukhsati, which means "Bride's farewell." The family ceremoniously walks the bride and groom out of the hall, symbolizing the bride's transition from her family to the next chapter of her life in marriage.
All events will be indoors.
All venues will have on-site parking available for free.
