Schedule

The full schedule is on the invitation, but in case you have further questions, here are some basics! Saturday during the day is yours to enjoy! Everything will take place at the Torpedo Factory. The doors will open at 6:10 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. For those staying at the room block hotel (Sheraton Suites Old Town) there will be shuttles at 5:30, 5:45 and 6. Please look for the Reston Limo shuttle at the front entrance. From there, we'll go to cocktail hour, then dinner and the reception. We will have babysitters available for children after dinner. Please contact us for any more information! Expect the fun to last until about midnight, but we’re certainly not offended if people need to depart earlier! Return shuttle service will begin after 9 p.m., depending on demand. As it stands, we haven’t planned an afterparty, but we’ll be happy to provide people with some other ideas for bars or restaurants in Old Town to visit after the event!

Things To Do

Below see some recommendations of things to do Saturday or if you have any extra time on either end! Some are in Virginia and some are in D.C., but feel free to reach out if you'd like to know about any other areas! In general, we haven't included things like restaurants or shops, but know that there's many in Old Town. Much of the area along the water is walkable, with plentiful parks and green space! In terms of D.C., I've added a couple of our favorite places, but there are many, many more things to do, so feel free to reach out for additional recommendations.

George Washington's Mount Vernon

3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, VA

This is George Washington's historic home. There are tours, activities for children, and beautiful grounds to explore.

Water Taxi

Alexandria, VA 22303

There are a number of water taxis and tours that take you from Alexandria to D.C. This is one recommended company but you may find others on Google as well!

Gadsby's Tavern Museum

134 North Royal Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

George and Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson and some of our founding fathers hung out here! Now it's preserved as a museum and nonprofit.

Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum

105-107 South Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

Into medical equipment and herbal remedies? This is a cool look at some of America's history there!

Torpedo Factory Art Center

105 North Union Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

During the day it's dozens of working art galleries! Feel free to walk around, observe and shop!

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

600 Independence Avenue Southwest, Washington, DC 20560

One of our favorite Smithsonian museums! Closest metro stop would be the Smithsonian one.

National Museum of African American History and Culture

1400 Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20560

This is the newest Smithsonian Museum! Closest metro stop would be the Smithsonian one.

United States National Arboretum

3501 New York Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC 20002

This is one of our absolute favorite spots in D.C. Please note, this is not accessible by public transportation!

FAQs

The Wedding Website of Anneliese Mahoney and Travis Ratner
If you have any questions not listed here, please do reach out!
Question

Is the hotel block the only good place to stay?

Answer

No! There’s dozens of hotels in the immediate area, particularly clustered near the King Street Metro stop. Old Town is an enclave within the city of Alexandria, and it’s quite busy with various restaurants, things to do and historical attractions. We chose to pursue a hotel block at the Sheraton Suites for its proximity and pricing, but please feel free to stay wherever is most convenient for you. There also should be plentiful Airbnbs in the area. Alexandria is a very safe city, and there aren’t necessarily any areas to avoid, but if you’re nervous about where you’ve selected for any reason at all, please feel free to reach out to us to check. Generally, we do recommend Old Town, or near one of the nearby metro stops (Braddock Road, Crystal City, etc…) but much of Alexandria is easy to navigate by public transportation, car, Uber or by foot.

Question

How do I get to Alexandria?

Answer

For those flying, we highly recommend flying into DCA (Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.) It is just a few miles from the hotel and venue and very easy to reach via car or public transportation (metro). Another option is Washington Dulles International Airport (also attached to the metro system). We don’t recommend flying into Baltimore for this occasion, as that will be quite a trek! For those not driving, Amtrak is also a great option. Union Station in D.C. is also attached to the metro and would be a reasonable Uber ride as well.

Question

Should I rent a car?

Answer

Up to you, but please do remember that Alexandria is a city more than a suburb! It is very easy to get around on foot, with ride share, taxi, or via the metro (here and here are a couple guides to explain how to use the metro.) We will provide as much information about parking as we can, but a car is definitely not necessary and may prove more of a hassle, given the area.

Question

What is parking like at the Sheraton Suites?

Answer

There is onsite parking for a fee (as of the time of this writing, $32.) There are frequently promos or coupons, so we recommend keeping an eye on the hotel’s site if you intend to park there.

Question

What is parking like at the venue?

Answer

There is no parking lot at the venue, as it is right in the city. However, there is metered street parking, as well as a number of parking garages nearby. Please check their websites or call for pricing info, as that could change over the next six months. Here are two recommended by the venue and very close by, but there are others nearby as well that should appear on Google Maps, etc… USP Parking Garage (220 N Union Street, Alexandria, Va.), 315 feet from the venue Colonial Parking Garage (102 N. Union Street, Alexandria, Va.), 341 feet from the venue

Question

Will there be a shuttle?

Answer

There will be a shuttle from the room block hotel. Please see the schedule section for more information.

Question

Is it walkable from the hotel to the venue?

Answer

Yes, and it’s a lovely walk. It should take about 15-20 minutes depending on your route. One item to note: you may run into some cobblestone or brick sidewalks, so prepare your shoe choices accordingly!

Question

Is there an accessible entrance?

Answer

Yes! Below is a link with some information on accessibility features for the building, and there are elevators and ramps, allowing any wheelchairs, other mobility aids, etc… https://torpedofactory.org/visit/accessibility/#:~:text=Barrier%2Dfree%20entrances%20with%20power,the%20building%2C%20facing%20the%20marina.

Question

Is there anything Friday night?

Answer

For those who have arrived in town by Friday evening, we invite you to join us for a very casual welcome party. You can RSVP to that as well in the same section as the ceremony. No need to arrange your travel schedules around it!

Question

Will babysitting be provided for children in attendance?

Answer

We will be providing babysitting for any invited kids between 6 months-12-years-old. The babysitting will begin with the start of cocktail hour and last through the end of the wedding, via a company that provides these kinds of services for events and weddings. The babysitters will run a variety of activities, and we’ll have food up there for the kids as well. We’ll provide more info as we get closer, but please let us know if you’re interested! Kids are more than welcome to stay with their parents or family members for the whole wedding, but we want to provide options!

Question

Are there any events Sunday morning?

Answer

Nope! We understand a lot of people have travel plans, plus we both plan on working Monday! Enjoy your day, and feel free to refer to our list of tourist attractions (coming soon!) if you plan on staying in the area.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Cocktail attire, please! Also please note that since we won’t be having traditional wedding parties, there’s no colors to avoid.

Question

Anything we need to know about dinner?

Answer

We will ask for information on dietary preferences when we send out the invite in a couple months. However, if you have any very specific preferences or restrictions, feel free to tell us sooner.

RSVP

Please RSVP by Sept. 1. We hope to see you there! If the drop down gives you any trouble for meals, please know that it's station-style, so you will pick your meal day-of. Just click the message about other options, and it should let you move on! Sorry for any inconvenience!
