The lake gets its name from an 1871 incident involving escaped prisoners from a Nevada state prison who were believed to be hiding in the area. The event led settlers to name the area Convict Lake. Today, it’s known for its stunning alpine scenery, hiking trails, fishing, kayaking, and peaceful moments by the water.
The Village is Mammoth Lakes’ lively gathering spot, offering year-round events, live music, and seasonal festivals, along with a great mix of restaurants, bars, and shops. It’s a fun, walkable place to eat, drink, and enjoy the mountain town atmosphere.
June Lake, often called the “Switzerland of California,” is known for its dramatic mountain scenery and crystal-clear lakes. Explore the area by hiking, mountain climbing, or paddleboarding - or simply enjoy the breathtaking 14-mile June Lake Loop, a scenic drive that connects four beautiful alpine lakes.
Just a short drive from Convict Lake, Yosemite National Park is famous for its dramatic granite cliffs, waterfalls, and unforgettable views. The surrounding Eastern Sierra also offers lakes, hot springs, charming towns, and great food - perfect for making a weekend out of your trip.
Bodie is an authentic California gold-mining ghost town where visitors can stroll deserted streets and see buildings preserved just as they were left. Once a booming town of nearly 8,000 residents, Bodie flourished in the late 1800s before rapidly declining after the gold rush ended. Today, the remaining structures are maintained in a state of “arrested decay,” offering a fascinating glimpse into California’s Wild West history.

Convict Lake has an elevation of 8,000 feet. You may consider taking CoQ10 in the days leading up to the wedding. CoQ10 (specifically in the form of ubiquinol) is used for altitude to potentially enhance oxygen utilization, protect against oxidative stress, and support cardiovascular function in low-oxygen environments.
