We met in 1980 at church. I was 8yrs old and he was 9yrs old. His family was visiting my home church which later became their home church. I instantly had a secret crush that I wrote about in my little diary that day(I still it have today). Our moms became best friends because they had so much in common. His sister Tisha became our little sister which often would come to my home and I’d go to their home and have sleep overs. She was the only one besides my sisters who knew of this crush. Our families grew closer every year. His mom Geraldine and his Aunt Kathleen became my Aunts! I was in love with them as much as they were in love with me. Every Sunday became something we’d look forward to because we’d get a chance to sing in the choir together, eat together after church and laugh about everything!!! It’s truly amazing how much our families shared the same humor. As we became teenagers my feelings still remained, secretly. We had a lot of intellectual conversations which caused us to grow closer as friends. Since I was the good typist I typed last minute high school papers for him and we often spoke about school and our future school plans. Soon we graduated and went our separate ways. Elgin and I remained friends throughout our adult lives. We supported each other through really tough times without judgment. A little over a year ago we re-entered each other’s lives. After a few months he brought up that he wanted to marry me. I was unsure because I didn’t want to mess up a lifetime friendship, if things didn’t work out. After seeking God in prayer and fasting I had peace in my spirit to move forward in the relationship. Within 4 months Elgin proposed and from that moment to this one God has awakened the secret desires of my heart that I had hidden in my heart since I was a teenager. He has actually blessed me with my first love, my secret crush and my best friend.

I met Renee years ago while working. Every time she would come in we’d laugh so hard tears would come out. So of course we exchanged numbers and became walking buddies, confidants, friends and now for sure she’s my little sister. She’s helped me navigate being a single mother of a growing boy. So many laughs so many tears. Thanks Renee for being the best little sister a girl could have❤️
