FAQs

Question

What is the Latin Mass?

Answer

“Latin Mass or 'Mass of the Ages' has been celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church since the fourth century. Over time, the liturgy adopted more rich theological prayers and reverent gestures. Today, the Missal of 1962 ensures these sacred elements like Latin, beautiful chant, Communion on the tongue, and ad orientem (prayer facing east) are practiced universally.” For more information please check out: https://fssp.com/why-the-extraordinary-form/

Question

What is a Latin Mass wedding like?

Answer

The Rite of Marriage happens at the beginning, and is followed by the Mass, uninterrupted. The entirety of the ceremony will last about an hour and a half. Most of the ceremony is in Latin with select parts, mainly the vows and the homily in English. Do not worry about trying to follow along if you are unfamiliar with it! Simply take in the ceremony and enjoy the day. If you would like to read the rubrics for this beautiful ceremony in English, please check out: https://icksp.org.uk/newbrighton/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2021/07/Preston-Wedding-Booklet.pdf

What is appropriate attire for a church wedding?

Answer
