Atlantic Festival Fireworks

9:00 pm

Overlooking the bay in Funchal

This will be our first night on the island! We'll find a place for everyone to meet up, watch the fireworks, drink some wine, catch up, and kick off the festivities. Maybe followed by drinks at a local bar.

Sunday, June 16, 2024

Boat Trip

3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Seaborn Catamaran

Casual boat and swim wear

We've chartered a boat out of Funchal to take us all for dolphin watching and swimming. The boat trip will be from 3pm to 6pm, with an open bar of beer, red and white wine, soda, and water. The name of the Catamaran is Seaborn and they’re expecting our group at the meeting point at 2:30pm. We will have the opportunity to swim, so plan accordingly. Wedding Ceremony

Cocktail Attire. The ceremony and cocktail hour are on grass so keep that in mind for your shoe choices.

The wedding venue is on the other side of the island from Funchal. It's about a 1 hour drive, so we have hired a bus to take people to and from.

Travel

The wedding is at a hotel on the Northern side of the island of Madeira, Portugal. It's a fairly small hotel and will not have availability. However, there are several Airbnb options in the area. In addition, there are a lot of larger hotels in the city of Funchal, on the Southern side of the island. We will be staying at the Pestana Carlton Madeira Hotel in Funchal. Several of our friends that are bringing their families on the trip are staying at The Residence Porto Mare Resort in Funchal. The first hotel is a little closer to the city center. The second one has the option of multi-room "apartments" with kitchenettes, which could be helpful if kids are coming along. There are a ton of other hotel and AirBnB choices, so you definitely do not have to stay at either of these. If you do decide to book at either of these hotels, please put "Alley/Kane Wedding party" in the comments when checking out.

Shuttle to and from the venue

The above two hotels will be the two pick-up spots: 3:15pm from Residence Porto Mare and 3:25pm from Pestana Carlton. If you do decide to stay somewhere else, just factor in getting to one of those hotels for the pick up. The island doesn't have Uber, but they do have Bolt, so you may want to download that app ahead of time.

Travel Note

Mainland Portugal

We will be spending time on mainland Portugal, ending with 4 days in Lisbon before heading to Madeira. We'll be in Lisbon from Tuesday, June 11th until Saturday, June 15th, flying to Funchal, Madeira on the morning of June 15th. If anyone will be in Lisbon ahead of making their way to Madeira and wants to meet up for drinks, dinner, sightseeing, etc., just let us know.

Things To Do

We plan to stay on Madeira for a full week, so we'll be there through the following weekend. There is a ton of hiking and outdoor activity to take advantage of, so that's likely what we'll be doing a lot of. If anyone is planning to stay on the island past the wedding, we'd love to get together for any and all activities, meals, drinks, etc.
