The Bridal Dance

The Bridal Dance (or Money Dance or Apron Dance) is a Western Pennsylvania tradition originating from descendants of immigrants from Poland and other Slavic countries. Traditionally it was the last dance before the bride and groom leave but now is incorporated into the wedding reception at any time. All the guests line up to dance with the bride to a polka and to donate money to the newlywed couple. The money is placed by each guest into an apron, which is held by the Bridal Party. Another member of the Wedding Party keeps the line moving, allowing everyone only a few spins with the bride before cutting in for the next guest’s chance to dance. After each guest has danced with the bride, she or he receives a drink, and links arms with the last person who danced with the bride creating a looping circle around the bride. After the final guest completes a dance with the bride, the groom must get the bride from the center of the circle. Check out Allison's parents bridal dance below!
