In the charming town of Temecula, the curtain was falling on Alicia's Starbucks stint, but little did she know, her last Saturday would unfold into a romantic comedy script worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster. Fresh from signing the lease to her new Orange County apartment, Alicia was brewing more than just coffee. Meanwhile, our leading man, Donnell, was kicking back in Old Town, enjoying a college football game at a local bar with his last Lincoln in hand. Feeling a caffeine itch, he decided to venture into a new Starbucks, setting the stage for a serendipitous encounter that would leave them both buzzing. As Donnell wandered into Alicia's caffeine kingdom, fate brewed up a frothy mix of laughter and shy glances. Alicia, catching Donnell chuckling at seasonal cake pops, mistook it for laughter at her expense. Cue a quick hair flip and a determined smile as she soldiered on, playing barista cupid with the next customer. Donnell, struck by Alicia's charm, seized the opportunity to make his move. A joke about Starbucks being Disneyland set the stage for a flirtatious banter that danced between menu items and college football loyalties. Cornell and Michigan collided in a symphony of laughter and shared interests. The sparks truly flew when they discovered their shared passion for volunteering in underserved communities, only to realize they were talking about two different cities, Inglewood in South Los Angeles and Englewood in Chicago. Their laughter echoed through the cafe as Alicia handed Donnell his hot Venti Caramel Macchiato, unwittingly letting the line of customers pile up behind him. As Donnell made his exit, Alicia couldn't shake the feeling that fate had just handed her the perfect setup. With a twinkle in her eye and a hasty farewell to her colleagues, Alicia embarked on an impromptu mission to catch up with “Don” the name he gave when ordering his drink. The corner turned, and there he was, teasing her with a playful, "Don't think that I forgot about you." And just like that, the credits rolled on Alicia's Starbucks shift but opened a new scene in the romance of their love story, where they haven't been apart since.
On that celestial night, beneath the ethereal dance of Jupiter and Saturn, their orbits entwined by a mere 0.1 degrees, a cosmic symphony orchestrated a divine meeting. December 21, 2020, marked the convergence of these planets, an event not witnessed in nearly four centuries, destined to grace the heavens again in another 400 years—a once-in-a-lifetime affair. Gathered as a family at the Laguna Beach tide pools, David, Donnell, Malia, Miles, and Alicia observed the tranquil embrace of the setting sun. In the throes of the initial lockdown chaos, the beach became their sanctuary, a sacred space where the rhythm of the waves and the whispers of the breeze held solace. Unbeknownst to them, the cosmos had woven a tapestry of destiny that evening. As Alicia and Donnell strolled along the shoreline, surrounded by fellow spectators, their hearts found a melody that echoed the cosmos. The tune shifted from a lively Rufus Du Sol song to the soul-stirring "All of Me" by John Legend. Twilight painted the sky, casting a magical hue as they stood upon the rocks, exchanging lyrics. Tears cascaded down their cheeks, not an unusual occurrence for a pair that found beauty in every moment. Then, in a moment that defied the ordinary, he descended to one knee, sparking a blend of surprise and joy. Alicia, grappling with the surrealism of the moment, questioned the authenticity of the scene unfolding. Donnell, with a twinkle in his eye, retrieved a ring from his fanny pack, sealing the ethereal moment with a question that echoed through the cosmos. Unbeknownst to Alicia, the scene was captured by her future brother-in-law David and framed by Malia's lens on the rocks. Miles, the silent conspirator, had harbored a secret, revealed in that transformative moment. Having sought her father's blessing in Oceanside, Donnell had orchestrated a familial symphony that echoed through the night . A call to Alicia's father, followed by shared news with her siblings, set the stage for a celebration. The video, a testament to love's cosmic alignment, rippled through the Layne family, mirroring the union of Jupiter and Saturn in the heavens. With the spiritual union etched in the sky, Alicia and Donnell embarked on the journey to their SUP—Spiritual Union Party—a celebration of love that echoed the harmony of the dance witnessed that enchanting night.

John Wayne Airport is the closest to the venue. You can fly into most airports in Southern California. These others are about a 1-2 hour drive from all directions (San Diego, Long Beach, LAX, Ontario, Burbank).
This beach holds so much meaning to us and is where we ground ourselves every Saturday morning before breakfast. It is the beach of the proposal, the tide pools that inspired Alicia's children's book Hermie, and the social distancing meeting spot during 2020. The downtown area across the street has many restaurants, including that of a famous Top Chef contestant. It is a wonderful place to people watch, enjoy the waves or shoot some hoops. You may catch Adam Sandler on the court.
Delicious breakfast outside. We love the specials they serve. The food never disappoints. One of our favorite spots that we enjoy and it is only a few minutes from Main Beach Park and downtown Laguna Beach.
This spot has the best parking and scenery that is always witnessed by painters and fans of skim boarding. We love this beach because of its accessibility on a busy day and the tide pools with glorious sea anemones. The waves are huge and crash on the shore, so you may get wet no matter how high you are up on the sand. AND...The Lost Pier Cafe. The food is fun, delicious, with something on the menu for everyone. It is right on the sand so you can go barefoot or just drop on by for a lunch date.
It's Disneyland! If you don't feel like spending a day walking in the park, conversing with Mickey, or Spiderman, there is also Downtown Disney. Located outside of the park it has many restaurants and fun things to do whether you are a child or just a child at heart.
The wedding ceremony is on a lake in the early evening with a beach theme. "Resort-wear" or "Beach Cocktail" is recommended. Dinner and the reception will be indoors. Please wear hats and sunglasses.
The projected forecast is a high of 76 degrees with a low of 52. Sunset will be around 7:30PM.
