How We Met

Tobiloba: I knew Juliet back in our days at OOU, where we studied engineering. She was not only smart but also one of the prettiest girls on campus, and as you can guess, most guys had their eyes on her including me! Funny enough, I never spoke to her during my time on campus, even though I admired her from afar. It wasn’t until two years after I graduated that fate stepped in. It was her birthday on September 7th, and I noticed the post on Facebook. I had seen it a bit late, but I wasn’t going to miss my shot this time. Without hesitation, I jumped into her DMs, wishing her a happy birthday and offering to get her a gift. To my surprise, she politely declined the gift but didn’t shut the door on me entirely. So, I suggested a date instead, and guess what? She said yes! We agreed to meet for a movie at Ikeja City Mall, and that was the day our love story truly began. We had a great time together, but I didn’t waste time. I knew she wasn’t seeing anyone, so I let her know my intentions right away. But let me tell you, she didn’t make it easy for me at all! Juliet showed me some serious Shege 😂. It took her seven long months before she finally gave me that much-anticipated "YES." I still remember the excitement when she called me on April 23, 2021, to let me know she was ready to give us a chance. That was one of the happiest moments of my life. Afterward, we both decided to take our relationship seriously, so we engaged in prayer, seeking God’s guidance for our future together. Looking back, I’m so grateful I didn’t let the opportunity slip by. That birthday message on Facebook changed everything, and now I get to spend the rest of my life with Juliet—the girl I always admired from afar. Adedoyin: It all started on Facebook, September 8, 2020, when I received a message from Tobiloba. He had actually messaged me the day before, on my birthday, September 7th, to wish me a happy birthday, but I didn’t reply right away. When I finally responded, he offered to take me out for a birthday treat. His name sounded familiar, then I remembered some of my friends had mentioned him back in school, although I didn’t recall meeting him in person. My curiosity was piqued. At first, I was unsure about his intentions, so I told him I was busy and would think about it. Eventually, I decided to give him a chance, and we set a date for September 23rd, 2020. I chose Ikeja City Mall as the location, a place where I felt at ease. That day, we met for the first time in person. We watched a movie and then went to Spur in Ikeja for dinner. During dinner, the conversation flowed more smoothly than I expected. Tobiloba opened up about how he’d admired me from afar while we were on campus but hadn’t approached me because I was in a relationship. When he found out I was single again, he seized the opportunity to shoot his shot. I was surprised by his confession, it felt surreal that someone had been interested in me for so long without me knowing. As we talked, Tobiloba expressed his feelings and asked me out, but I wasn’t ready to say yes immediately. I asked for more time. Yet, he never gave up. Every morning and evening, he called to check in on me, even when I wasn’t in the mood to talk. His consistency and patience slowly melted my heart. After seven months of thought, on April 23, 2021, I finally said yes. From that moment, our relationship blossomed, and we prayed for clarity about our future together. On November 26, 2023, Tobiloba proposed, and of course, I said yes. We had our marriage introduction on December 2, 2023, and now I’m beyond excited to marry him in just a few weeks!
