It all began thanks to a little nudge from fate—and our mutual friend, John Compton. John, who also works with Chris, had a feeling that Abby might just be the perfect match for Christopher. At first, Chris was hesitant. He was in the middle of flipping his house and didn’t think he had the time or energy for a relationship. But after some convincing and peer pressure from John, he agreed to a casual group blind date at the Martinsville Wine by the River Festival. That day turned out to be more than just good wine and good company—it was the beginning of something special. Our group included John and his wife, Abby’s sister and her husband, and of course, us. Although we were nervous to meet, we hit it off quickly, exchanged numbers, and before long, we had our first real date. That first night out was a memorable dinner at The Cheesecake Factory, followed by sharing ice cream and wandering around Barnes & Noble. Looking back, we had no idea how much that evening would set the tone for our relationship—books, desserts, and meaningful conversations have remained some of our favorite things to share together. In just a year and a half, we’ve experienced so much side by side. Chris earned a well-deserved promotion to Sergeant with the Virginia State Police—a milestone that reflects his dedication and hard work. Abby started grad school, took on a new role at work, and faced the heartbreaking loss of her mother. Through all of life’s changes, we’ve leaned on each other. Abby can’t help but feel that her mom had a hand in the timing of Chris’s proposal not long after her passing. We’ve also made it a point to travel and enjoy life together. From beach trips to Myrtle, to exploring the Biltmore Estate in Asheville at Christimas time (where Abby thought the proposal might happen), to sailing through the Caribbean, and plenty of spontaneous getaways in between—each trip has brought us closer and created unforgettable memories. We’re so excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to see where life takes us next, hand in hand, and a sweet treat in tow.
Our reception will be "smart casual" or otherwise known as dressy casual. Think somewhere between business casual and formal—elegant but comfortable. No need for tuxedos or gowns, but save the jeans and sneakers for another day!
The reception will be outdoors, on the rooftop of the Bee Hotel. There are some large umbrellas available for shade and cover, if needed.
Yes, dinner will be provided, as well as champagne to cheers the newlyweds!
If you received an invite to the ceremony, we can’t wait to have you there! If your invitation was for the reception only, please know that the ceremony is very small and intimate. We’re so happy you’ll be joining us for the celebration afterward—it wouldn’t be the same without you!
