How We Met

(Ethan’s Version)

So there I was, at a Grand Canyon University history department Christmas party. I look over and I see this really cute blonde girl and I think you know what I am gonna go flirt with her. We play some board games and we talk all night and I think we flirt all night. (Madi would disagree but that’s besides the point) I walk her and her roommate home, and I think to myself you know I will never see her again. This sucks. Fast-forward it’s about end of January early February. I’m out walking around campus like I did every day and I run into a friend named Jo and she says, “Hey Ethan, you should come to Professor Kennedy‘s lecture.” I sat there and I thought okay, why not? I like Professor Kennedy, so sure why not so I go to this 5pm, Friday night lecture. I walk in and who do I see but the cute blonde girl from the Christmas party. I was thinking to myself I would never see her again, but I know for sure she will be here on Wednesdays and Fridays at 5 PM so if I wanna see her, I’m gonna have to come to this class. I continued to go to that class the rest of the semester. A class I was not registered in, a class that I had already passed with an A, a class I didn’t really need to be in. But, I went because there was the cute blonde girl from the Christmas party. It took me until like April, but I finally asked her out on a date. It took me a while to get up the nerve. We would study and work on homework together and stuff, but it took me like three months to finally work up the nerve to ask her out. And the rest is history (wink wink).

How We Met

(Madi’s Version)

So Ethan basically stalked me. I talked to a guy for 10 minutes at a party and I thought to myself, “He is cute, he does have a mustache… but that’s okay. And he’s funny, he actually said something smart, not just nonsense with words to sound smart.” I didn’t think I would see him again. You know we talked for a bit, I guess he walked us home but never asked for my name or number. I thought that was the end of that story. Here’s the thing, when he started coming to my class. I just thought he like missed a few days of the school year. Maybe I just didn’t notice him initially, whatever. But, when I clocked with him not taking notes during class I was like, “why is this guy coming in his class every day (because he was there every day) and not taking notes??” It wasn’t until professor Kennedy said, “Oh Ethan already knows this cause he passed this class.” I looked over and I legitimately asked him, “Why are you here?” Ethan just replied, “Oh, I just really love history.” I guess this guy really loves history? And it turned out, he does. This is true. He does love history. But, over the course of the semester I was able to get to know him in a classroom environment. For me, it’s the environment that I feel safest the most comfortable in. And, over the course of a semester, I was able to get to know Ethan. Between hanging out during class, wine and cheese nights at my apartment with the history gang, library study sessions, and a critical trip to the museum with a few people from the GCU history department, I was able to learn how kind, caring, and genuine Ethan is. When he asked me on April I knew it was coming, but I was nonetheless excited. I wasn’t sure if the first date was a date, and he didn’t even make an attempt to kiss me at the end. But that’s Ethan for you. He respects boundaries and he just make spaces for you in his life. It was hard to tell exactly when we started dating and stop being friends, honestly. Immediately upon meeting him and hanging out with him, we felt close. I knew he was someone who’s gonna be in my life forever. And once we started dating, I knew immediately that he was gonna be the man that was gonna marry. the end
