Zaylee's Story

I started my freshman year of college not wanting a boyfriend whatsoever. College was supposed to be my time to shine and discover who I truly was. When I moved into the dorms, Jake was one of the Resident Advisor's on campus. I didn't really pay any attention to him, I was just excited to move into my dorm and start my first semester. I started to make a few friends that were also mutual friends of Jake. After hanging out in a group a few times, the boy started to catch my eye just a little bit. I remember walking outside the Wilder Student Union one time and going to sit with him and another friend of ours; we ended up having a long conversation about God and what we all believed in. I knew then that maybe, just maybe, I was starting to fall for him. In the next few weeks, we started hanging out more and getting closer, mainly by bonding over a TV show called Teen Wolf. Before I knew it, a friend of ours talked him into asking me to coffee, and from there it's history. After a full year and four months of coffee dates, late nights, fights, and wonderful moments, Jake asked me to be his forever and I would not change it for the world.

Jake's Story

Zaylee wrote her side, and now I get to share my story on how I met my person. I have never been someone much for the whole "falling in love" thing; I'd see it happen to people around me, but I never pictured it for me. Then... Zaylee Catherine waltzed (or rather tripped) her way into my life. I was a Resident Advisor in Fall 2019 at Lambuth. One day, another RA and I went into the living room of the dormitory to hang out with our residents. When I was down there, there was one girl that was particularly hilarious, cute, and nice. Her name was Zaylee, and if anyone knows me, they know that it is a real struggle for me to remember EASY names, let alone DIFFICULT ones like Zaylee! First, it was a name I couldn't remember for the life of me, but it soon became the only name I cared about. As much as I liked her, I never had the slightest notion that she liked me. Luckily, a friend of mine urged me to buck up and ask her on a date. Well, I did, and as Zaylee already said, everything else has been history. We've had ups, we've had downs, and there's no one else I would rather spend the rest of my life with. She's the craziest, loudest, most intriguing, most loving, most spirit-filled, and most beautiful person, inside and out, that I have ever met. Zaylee Catherine, I can't wait to be the husband that you deserve.

The Proposal

It's Jake again. So, this is the story about how I popped the question to Zaylee. I had been wanting to marry her for a while now, and eventually, after looking at multiple rings at multiple places, I finally found the perfect ring for her. I soon discovered that once I had it in my possession, it was definitely burning a hole in my pocket! I couldn't wait to give it to her! With the help of a few family members, I formulated my plan. After church on Sunday, February 16th, we went straight to her Grandmamma's house for lunch. After that, Zaylee, her sister, and two of her cousins loaded up my car and headed to Jackson for an exotic pet expo (if you know Zaylee, you know she loves animals). From here, my plan was to have her sister leave and pretend to go to work, while in reality be waiting in a nearby parking lot waiting on me to propose. So, I drove to the dorms, and I said that I wanted to go walk for a little, and she threw a FIT about it! Apparently, girls don't like walking in a dress and heels. The audacity, right? Anyhow, we walked to the Pineapple Fountain on campus, which is a fountain surrounded by a small grove of trees. It was here that I got down on a knee and asked her to marry me. Honestly, I couldn't tell you what I said; I was so nervous that I don't remember! She cried a lot, but she said yes! We got to share our moment with many friends and family that day, and I wouldn't change a thing about it for the world!
