Gabriel and Weati met in the midst of their college careers at the University of Miami at a campus ministry event that Weati was helping lead. Gabriel was steadfast on the Physical Therapy track he decided on in high school and Weati was a history major with a psychology minor she could not let go of. They kindled a friendship based primarily on their mutual yearning for the Lord. From cheering on UM's football team under Hard Rock's lights to serving the homeless on Sundays with the Missionaries of Charity, a true and deep friendship blossomed between the pair before they knew it. Gabriel nurtured an enduring love for Weati that she never knew of. As she found herself discerning religious life with many nuns and sisters, Gabriel lovingly put his heart aside out of reverence for Weati's discernment process and their relationship. Over a year and a half later, Weati received the call from the Lord, through the intercession of Saint Joseph, to surrender herself to Him once again. She relinquished her ideals about her Vocation as she found her heart growing more open to the call to married life. Gabriel delighted in this news and rejoiced with his good friend while simultaneously distancing himself as to not interfere with the Lord's work. Soon, Weati could not ignore her heart's connection to Gabriel's and Gabriel courageously put himself back into the equation. The frequent dance partners danced an unforgettable dance after the Easter Vigil Mass in 2023 at the annual UMiami Catholic "Feaster" party and the rest is history. Over 3 and a half years later, on December 12th of 2026, Gabriel and Weati will be ready to take this next step into eternity together with the Lord, wrapped in the love of the Holy Family that has guided them thus far.
Our Lady brought us together and continues to play a critical role in bringing us together and to Her Son. When Our Lady appeared in Mexico from December 9th to 12th of 1531 to Saint Juan Diego, She entrusted Her mission of evangelization to him by fostering his obedience. If he was not worried about being unworthy of the mission, he was worried about his sick uncle. He faced many of life's crosses before and after being called by Our Lady. Through his obedience, over 15 million people converted to the Catholic faith in Mexico in the eight years following Our Lady’s appearance alone, and today, Mexico is still known as one of the most Catholic countries in the world, and one of the most devoted to Our Lady. Today we hear Mary’s words to Saint Juan Diego in that time, “Am I not here, who am your Mother?”, echo in our hearts each time we encounter the crosses and joys of this life. We often remind each other of the phrase whenever we are tempted to lose sight of Her never-ending Motherly protection and guidance of our lives. We feel called to evangelize however God calls us by mirroring the obedience of Saint Juan Diego and his trust in Our Lady’s enduring help to do God’s will.
