The year was 2011 and I was on my way to the GCA Garba event. I hadn't gone in years, so you know I was about to flex that night. After giving out my presidential handshakes and catching up with friends and family, I decided to make a move inside. As I opened the double doors to the gym... BAM! Dead smack I see Sonam doing bhangra while everyone else was doing tin taali. I was amazed at her height, smile and beauty. She was just towering over people. I knew it wasn't the right event to make a move at, so I had penciled her in my book. Fast forward to October 2012, the Wolfpack decided to grab dinner at Tandoori Times. I received a text from Dhruv who just arrived there. "Yo, guess whos here?!" I had no idea... he responded saying "Sonam!" I was like "Sonam who?" and then he sent me a picture of her and the thought ran through my head.."how the hell does Dhruv know her name before me?" I walk in and with the lords blessing, Sonam was serving our table. I cracked a couple of jokes, left an impression and later slid into her DM. You can say the rest was history.
I was two months into my job as a waitress. So new that it was still a constant struggle of making sure I balanced my tray properly without knocking it over or spilling a drink on someone. It was a busy Saturday night and another table got assigned to my section. It was booth b2, a table of four Indians. I greeted their table and I took their orders as per usual. I remember thinking what a fun group of guys they are. I served them paneer wraps and malai kofta. They ate, they left. After work and a few hours of school work, I went to bed. In the morning, I woke up to a message Oct 7, 2012 at 3:27 AM, “Hi, you work at Tandoori Times right? Had to leave early but my friends were at the same table and got your name, very beautiful you are thanks for the omazing service.” I had two thoughts… 1.) How did he manage to find me on social media 2.) He clearly doesn’t know how to spell ‘amazing’ But because he was a customer and I was curious, I thought to play nice and reply back. “Oh thanks! Um.. were u the table of four guys? how'd u get my name?” I tried to creep on his FB page but there wasn't a picture of him and I couldn’t for the life of me remember how any of the 4 guys at b2 looked like…I was LITERALLY going into this thing blind. After that, conversations easily flowed back and forth. We continued to keep in touch and exchanges of numbers occurred. We would text each other all day long. The scary part was I didn’t know how he looked like or anything but yet I knew I really liked him. I’d jump happily every single time my phone would go off with his messages. He became the first person I would talk to in the mornings and the last person I would talk to at night. Finally one night we happen to be around the same place at the same time, we decided to meet up. Of course I took a few friends with , needed back up just in case. He walked through the doors and at that point I had just one thought… ‘Dangg, He’s a keeper!’ The rest.. well you all know the rest!
