We had always been in the same circles. Knowing the same people, crossing paths without ever quite meeting. In 2016, that finally shifted when Victor reached out. Sabrina still remembers sitting at home with a friend when she got the notification and asking, “Who is Victor Santana?”. That friend immediately recognized the name, raved about how cute he was, and just like that, she added him back. From there it became random check-ins, messages here and there, brief conversations, many attempted dates, but life always seemed to take us in different directions. Over the next few years, our timing never quite aligned. We both came and went, living our own lives, until 2019 when everything finally fell into place. That November, after Thanksgiving dinner, Sabrina was getting ready to go out with her cousin and a few friends, but when plans changed, it ended up being just a spontaneous girls’ night at a bar called El Santo. Somewhere behind the scenes, Victor had secretly been coordinating with her cousin, planning to stop by and finally meet in person. Neither of us knew at the time that a random night out would end up changing everything. And then, finally, there we were. Victor walked through the front door with the largest, most genuine smile, and Sabrina immediately turned and said, “Oh my gosh… he’s cute.” For something that had taken years to happen, it all felt effortless from the start. We talked, we danced, and there was an immediate sense of familiarity, like we had known each other long before that night. Somewhere in the middle of a crowded bar, with music and energy all around us, we had our first kiss and somehow, everything, even the loud music and bumping shoulders of people next to us, faded away. It was just us. From that night on, things unfolded naturally. What had once been years of missed timing turned into something undeniable, and we quickly became inseparable. The plans came easily, the days filled themselves, and what followed felt less like a beginning of something new and more like something that had always been meant to find its way. Through three years of long distance, six years of growing up together, and learning how to love each other in every season, one thing has always remained constant: we choose each other. And we still do.
