Our Story

Monica’s POV: When I matched into fellowship in Houston, a friend offered to connect me with his friend who lived there. He gave me his name and number, but I felt awkward texting a random guy, so I never did. A few months later, I moved from NY to TX and started meeting amazing people who invited me to different events. One day, I got invited to a game night. I almost skipped it to study for my boards, but figured I should take every opportunity to make friends. Once I got there, I noticed a cute guy with green eyes. We started playing games, and I couldn't help but notice that we kept making eye contact. Eventually, I heard someone say his name and asked, “Wait, are you Abanoub Henry?” Ab and I talked for over an hour that night and even took a picture together to send our friend. The texting began, followed by our first date a few weeks later. I already had such a strong feeling about Ab that I recorded a video talking about it right before he picked me up. We quickly became inseparable, and soon, it was hard to remember life before each other. Thank God I chose not to study that night! Meeting Ab has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. My friends know I used to have a 30-point checklist for my future partner. I never imagined someone could check every box, let alone add a few I didn't even know I was looking for. Ab is the most supportive, loving, and selfless person I've ever met. He's made my life better in every way. I've always known I wanted a beautiful life, but I never imagined just how beautiful it could be until I met him. Being loved by him is one of the greatest gifts of my life, and every day I'm reminded of just how lucky I am to have found him. Ab’s POV: One day, a friend from Boston reached out to ask if he could share my number with someone moving to Houston. I agreed, but months passed without hearing anything, and I forgot all about it. One Sunday, I was showing a coworker around our Coptic church when friends invited us to game night. I had a work deadline that night and initially declined, but my coworker didn't want to go alone, so I begrudgingly went and brought my laptop. Then a beautiful girl walked through the door. I couldn't stop looking her way, and I'm pretty sure she noticed. I started some small talk with her. When someone said my name, she stopped and asked, “Wait, are you Abanoub Henry?” It clicked: she was the girl my friend had told me about months earlier. Small world. I tried to work while everyone grabbed food, but I couldn't resist talking to Monica. A short conversation turned into a long one, and my work went out much later than planned. When everyone moved to the couch to play Codenames, I made a concerted effort to move everyone out of the way so I could sit next to Monica. We got lost in conversation again, so lost that we forgot the game was still going on. Apparently we weren't subtle. People at the game night immediately noticed "strong chemistry" and mentioned it to their friends. One friend told another friend. Weeks later, a buddy of mine who lives in an entirely different city called me to say he'd heard about the perfect girl for me. By then, Monica and I were already texting nonstop. One date turned into another, followed by FaceTime calls that lasted until 4 AM. We both lead busy lives, and shortly after we started dating, Monica was studying for her pediatric boards while I prepared for a jury trial in Marshall, TX. Even after 20-hour days, I'd rather talk to her than sleep. We've navigated some of the busiest and most difficult times of our lives together, and I quickly realized there's nobody I'd rather have by my side during those times, and absolutely nobody I'd rather celebrate the milestones with. People ask how we met, and the truth is, we both almost missed our chance. But God always has a plan, and I never imagined His plan could be this good. He sent me the most perfect woman, and for that, I'm eternally grateful.
