We met in 2019 in a communications class at Fresno State. Jesus sat one chair away after noticing Michelle walk in, and when her computer broke, she took the open seat next to him. Talking before class became walking to class together, which became a first date. Jesus packed a picnic for it: watermelon, Turbos, and ceviche. We were so nervous we barely ate any of it, though his roommate happily finished the leftovers. We were already friends, so we just kept showing up for each other, and on May 19, 2019, we made it official. On September 21, 2019, we went to a lantern festival straight out of Tangled. Before setting our lanterns in the water, we each wrote something on them, and without planning it, we both wrote "I love you." We took turns showing each other, and since Jesus went first, he technically said it first. The seven years since have been amazing, and our favorite moments have been the regular ones: graduations, jobs we'd rather forget, Jesus finding marketing and Michelle finding teaching, a few trips to the beach, but mostly home with a competition show on and an inside joke going. On September 21, 2025, exactly six years after that first "I love you," we got engaged, just the two of us, with flowers and a private-chef dinner. We're looking forward to March 25, 2027, and we can't wait to celebrate with you.
