We met at Arkansas State during a TRIO summer program where the sun was blazing, the cafeteria chicken was iffy at best, and the Wi-Fi only worked when it felt like it. Neither of us expected to meet each other that summer, but clearly, God had other plans. On just the second day — yes, day two — Justin leaned over to Chantele with all the confidence in the world and said, “You know… in case of emergency, you should probably put me down as your contact. I got quick reflexes and a kind heart.” Chantele looked at him like he was crazy, laughed hard, and said, “I’m putting my daddy down.” We always say we’re each other’s before day ones because we met before college even officially started. It was before the syllabi, before cafeteria swipes, before move-in day. Just us, figuring things out before the rest of the world showed up. From those early summer days to campus strolls and real talks about the future, our bond kept growing. We went from being young and goofy to learning how to love through all the seasons — the good ones, the hard ones, and everything in between. We’ve learned how to argue without walking away, how to support each other even on the tired days, and how to love someone more than just yourself. Chantele keeps Justin dreaming big, and Justin reminds Chantele to slow down and enjoy the ride. From college kids to full-blown adults navigating life, love, and all the everyday moments in between, we’ve been through it all. And now, after years of growing together, we’re in Houston. No more dorm rooms, no more late fees, just two college sweethearts who met under Arkansas skies, now choosing forever under the Texas ones.
