Our Love Story

- Forever and Always -

Blaine and Margaret's story began September of 2012 their freshman year at RISD. Fate most certainly smiled upon them when they were placed in the same core classes, spending 8+ hours a day together, at least three days a week working in the same studio. Their first interaction is classic Blaine and Margaret. Picture this: it's the first week of classes and they're sent downstairs to go retrieve art supplies, and they hop into the elevator together. Margaret drops her phone and picks up a completely shattered screen. Totally embarrassed and upset that she no longer has a working cell phone the first week of school where she knew not a soul on campus, Margaret looks up and locks eyes with Blaine as he jokes, "looks like your phone is broken!" Feeling bad for his comment, Blaine graciously and kindly offered Margaret his phone so that she could call her mom and let her know what happened. Immediately feeling a connection and sense of closeness, the two immediately hit it off and spent essentially every waking moment together, made so easy because they lived just down the hall from each other! It took about a year and a half for something more than friendship to develop and now over 12 years later they're ready to tie the knot!!! They've been through high-highs, low-lows, near-death experiences, career changes, but always together, always knowing that they have each other--forever and always.

Our Wedding Themes

Vintage | Southern | Artistic | Nonna

Our intention is to create a space that feels like you’re being invited into someone’s generational home (yes, literally, but also metaphorically), a space that feels lived in rather than quickly and artificially built just for the day and taken away. It is important to us to minimize the amount of consumerism and waste that is often created by weddings, and, more importantly, we want our wedding to be as creative and weird as we are! About 90% of our wedding is vintage and purchased through estate sales, allowing an additional life to be had for these beautiful objects. It is sincerely an honor to give a second life to so many of these quilts and textiles, made by the hands of mothers and grandmothers who'd otherwise never consider themselves as artists--but they are! Being that our wedding is in Tennessee, it's important for us to give a nod to the place we call home. This is the very backyard where, as a child, Margaret caught as many lightning bugs and roly-polys as her hands could hold, falling asleep to the roar of cicadas chirping during many summer nights. We hope that you walk away from our wedding feeling a sense of Southern hospitality that we hope to one day create in a home of our very own. We gotta put those art degrees to use somehow! You'll notice many elements of the wedding have been handcrafted, embroidered, and made by yours truly! We hope you enjoy these special touches to our special day and are inspired yourselves to create art and beauty for your own lives. The smell of fresh tomato sauce bubbling away on the stove, the sight of her rolling out long sheets of pasta by hand, and the ritual of Sunday lunch at her home: the feeling of Nonna (Italian for grandmother) embodies unconditional love, warmth, safety, and a slow, intentional pace of life, qualities Margaret and Blaine seek to create every day within their home. We encourage everyone to seek out their inner Nonna, encouraging y'all to find pleasure in the simple moments and to prioritize human connection over convenience culture. C'mon, sit down and MANGIA!!!

Why September 26th?

The date of the wedding is on the Harvest Moon (absolutely chosen because of the Neil Young song) and we feel that the Harvest Moon is the perfect metaphor for our future marriage: the Harvest Moon provides additional light at night for farmers harvesting the last of their bounties before the coldness and harshness of Winter. We believe that all relationships oscillate between the seasons, going from the brightness and hope of Spring to the gathered and abundance of Summer to the slowing down of Fall onto the frigidity and stillness of Winter, and back and forth again. This wedding will be Blaine and Margaret collecting their Harvest of love and loved ones, taking stock of what they need and value in their lives and relationships, and preparing themselves to head into the variability of their future seasons.
