Our Beginning

A Monorail, Oktoberfest, Optimus Prime and More

Have you heard our story? Our tale, our narrative… our spiel, if you will? Well, here’s a brief history of how it all started! It really began on March 19, 2014. Location: University of Findlay. The event: UF’s first Monorail (an April Fools' joke). A couple of students were needed for this fake video I was putting together and Sarah was coerced into being in it by a staff member. Did she want to be in the video? Nope. Did she do it? Yes! I didn’t know her at the time, but it was my first encounter with her. She did awesome! (You should really watch the video.) Fast forward to Wednesday, March 12, 2015. Location: Wolfie's Nuts. Reason: The very first Oktoberfest Findlay planning discussion! This was quite possibly our first actual conversation. Sarah has absolutely no memory of this encounter, but I remember. She sat across from me and we chatted about all things Oktoberfest. A few months later in June 2015, it’s all coming together. Location: The Arts Partnership. Reason: Dropping off some DVDs. Sarah worked there and when I came in, we got to talking. I complimented her fresh, shiny new arm tattoo and I really enjoyed chatting with her. At this point, we were off to the races! She invites me out, I invite her out, we go places, like to Cedar Point (where we didn’t lose the car and spend 30 minutes looking for it) and she kindly humored me by watching me assemble my Optimus Prime toy collection. Back and forth we went. Some might call it an all-too-lengthy dalliance, but we finally made ourselves official in July 2016! Now, I know it seems like we had only just started dating, but a quick nine years and 5 pets later, in July 2025, I asked Sarah to marry me! Great friends helped me pull the day off. The trick was getting Sarah to our friend Amber's art studio here in Findlay. She was told she needed to come sign a letter of authenticity for a piece of art she bought. This was actually true, making it the perfect excuse. I had some custom art created that meant something to us and our artist friend was tasked with chatting Sarah up until she offered to show her a "certain piece of art she might like." All the while, myself and two friends on the assist were waiting in a pitch-black room listening for the cue so I could come out for the surprise. It couldn't have worked out more perfectly. Now that you know how it all started (and one more pet later) we can't wait to celebrate this next chapter with you all on October 17, 2026!
