Flower Moxie – Do-It-Yourself Wedding Flowers

5.0

Oklahoma City, OK
  • Serves Pasadena, MD

In 2013, 8-year wedding veteran Amy McCord Jones realizes she wouldn't be able to afford to hire her own floral services if she was a bride. Then, Amy discovers that there is basically zero help available for DIY brides. No flower recipes. No instructions. No access to florist-grade blooms. Rude. So she launches Flower Moxie! Flower Moxie remains a humble, tucked-away small business out of Oklahoma City. We don’t zoom around on scooters in some fancy high-rise. We stock an average kitchen with canned wine and Aldi chips and listen to true crime podcasts while photographing curvy ranunculus. Join us. There’s cake, hugs, and acceptance here.

I ordered the "peaches and cream" small package. We decided to skip on ceremony florals, and only have handhelds and bud vases at the reception. We did buy a few more flowers from the grocery to add more peach once the flowers arrived. We made and medium sized bridal bouquet, 4 bridesmaids bouquets, 3 corsages, and 7 bouts. (With lots of flowers left over). My bridesmaids and I did the arranging the morning before the wedding; it was fun, and a great start to the weekend. None of us had experience, but it all turned out great! If you or your bridal party are mildly crafty, I'd highly recommend it!

The Faux Bouquets

Redlands, CA
  • Starts at $175
  • Serves Pasadena, MD

Believe it or not, we often have people ask if our pictures throughout our website are showing a mix of fresh and faux and…no they aren’t! Although fresh florals are pretty, we are totally in love with poser-blooms all the way here and that’s what we design 100% of our orders with.

I was wanting some pretty unique color combinations, and they worked with me so well! They helped me come up with some ideas while also making sure that everything I wanted was in my flower arrangements. I had a flower crown, bouquets, boutonnieres, and centerpieces. They were all beautiful, they all came quickly, and were stored properly.

As my fiancé and I started the wedding planning process, we joked that our loose theme would be “flowers and love.” We knew we wanted lots of beautiful, lush florals as the primary decor focus, and also knew we didn’t want to spend the many thousands of dollars to achieve that look with a standard florist. If you’re in the same boat, and have an appetite for some DIYing, I’d STRONGLY recommend working with Bloom Culture. After some Googling for DIY wedding florals, I came across Bloom Culture and spoke with Allison for a custom consultation. During the call, Allison helped me express the type of floral look we were going for, and built out a custom floral package that would achieve it. She also laid out the delivery and prep process, and we landed on a final package and timeline for delivery. We received a LARGE box of flowers the week before the wedding and were immediately pleased with the quantity and quality of flowers we had received. Allison’s guide mentioned that some crushed or damaged blooms would be completely normal, but everything was so well packaged we didn’t notice more than a few damaged stems. From there, the DIYing began. Between unpacking, trimming, de-thorning, trimming again, building bouquets, arrangements, boutonnieres, etc, etc, it was a LOT of work. However, we referenced Allison’s guides (written, video tutorials) religiously and they laid out everything perfectly. She strongly recommends having plenty of assistants -- pay attention to this advice! Find a few trusted friends or family members who have time and artistic ability and it will make all the difference in your stress levels. The flowers all lasted beautifully for the wedding and we received so many compliments on how they looked. Allison - thank you for everything!

Crooked Fence Farm

5.0

Parkton, MD
  • Starts at $1,000
  • Serves Pasadena, MD

Crooked Fence Farm is a family operation in Parkton, MD operated by Sarah and Billy McCarthy and supported by a skilled and dedicated team. We specialize in sustainable and seasonally grown blooms that will delight for any special occasion. Sarah is a former professional pastry chef with extensive experience in wedding and special event management. Uniting this expertise with our passion for sustainable growing practices, Crooked Fence Farm is the ideal option for an authentic, skillful, and magical floral component of your next event.

Sarah was truly SUCH a dream to work with as she’s just a phenomenal person. From day one, we felt so comfortable and seen in Sarah’s gentle and capable care. She went above and beyond at every turn to ensure our vision came to life and was always two steps ahead of us thinking through potential obstacles and solutions. I could not have asked for a better person to have guided us through this process and I can’t say enough just how happy I am we found Sarah. Her wisdom, grace, humor, and willingness to step in and take things off our plate were invaluable to creating the wedding day of our dreams. The florals she planted for us were absolutely stunning - I could even say they were the star of the show with how beautiful and vibrant they were. One of my favorite parts of our florals was also our incredible centerpieces: a mix between herb baskets we’ve been able to take home and grow in our yard, some unreal flowering branches, the most gorgeous attendant bouquets, floral pockets and floral hair combs. Sarah just got who we were as a couple and made everything come to life. We have the utmost gratitude for her and her team.

WildFlower Stem + Sundry

5.0

Glen Burnie, MD

Since our community is deeply important to us, we take great pride in being Maryland's premier floral wedding and event company. After years of ensuring that our city always has the flowers and plants it needs, we bring considerable experience quite literally to your tables.

Jada and her team did wonderfully for my wedding! I had gone back and forth on a couple things, including colors I wanted to include or products that I wanted, and they worked with me every step of the way. In the beginning, Wildflower will send you a questionnaire to make sure they know what you do and don't like, any favorite flowers, and what your color palette will be. One of the things they offer is a 'Stem Bar,' which was a hit at our wedding - guests got to create their own bouquets! I also opted for hair flowers, and they delivered a great selection. They were able to coordinate with my venue to set up the arch (which they also rented to me). They did custom centerpieces for me that involved water bowls with flowers floating on top, which were beautiful! They also customized my bouquet as I had asked (sunflowers with orchids surrounding/cascading around it), as well as my bridesmaids' bouquets (a single sunflower along with flowers of some other colors in my palette). I also had requested that my bouquet have my dogs' accessories around the stems, and I teared up when I received my bouquet and saw that Hambone's bowtie and Casserole's flower leash attachment were pinned securely on my bouquet. They also coordinated with my photographer, who had asked for lay-flat flowers for details photos (i.e. with my shoes, jewelry, programs, etc.). For the flower girls petals, they also provided the baskets. Lastly, for my bouquet plus the four bridal bouquets, they arrived in beautiful honeycomb texture glass vases that we got to keep! The things I personally didn't like (which aren't really a big deal, and I may be grasping for straws here really, but also want to be transparent about my experience): They communicate through Honeybook, which I personally don't like because it starts a new email chain with every message they send (I use gmail, which keeps threads grouped in one thread) and I have to verify my email every time I want to access the online portal. I also noticed at one point that the price went up significantly between revisions and when I asked why, they told me honestly that someone made a clerical issue and forgot a 0 at the end of the price of one of the items - which made a significant difference in the final price! They acknowledged their error and ended up offering the item to me for half the price it should have been with the 0. Overall, though, still a 5-star experience. The only thing that would have elevated it was if they could partner with or otherwise incorporate something like Petals For Hope (which I actually think is defunct now), which was an organization that helped you donate flowers to care/assisted living facilities. But they really helped me with my custom ideas and delivered fantastic products. I kept my bridesmaids' bouquets afterwards, and they're all still in full bloom, 5 days later.

I've had a chance to work with Chic Wedding and Events for several weddings. As a photographer, timing, communication, and flexibility are vital to me. I've worked through +200 weddings and, let me tell you, weddings can and definitely are stressful. You want someone to be there to assist you on the day of the wedding. Sure, you might be able to allocate a friend or bridal party member to handle these things, but honestly, you probably want everyone to enjoy the wedding day. This is where a wedding planner and day of coordinator will be vital. Based on experience, they know how much time each items takes, buffer times, how to communicate, and make sure you are having the best time at your wedding. I've worked with many planners in the past; Chic Weddings are top notch - 100000% worth it. Everything just gets done. No questions asked. Just as I'm about to ask them about any updates on the day of the wedding, there they are providing updates. Any requests I have from the photography side, they are open to. They listen, they care, and they take action - not just for the couples but all the vendors they work it. It makes the worlds of a difference from my point of view. Thank you wonderful ladies~!! Always a pleasure to see you and work with you all~! <3 Justin Kunimoto Justin Kunimoto Photography
