Chicago industrialist Richard T. Crane, Jr. first purchased the land that would become The Crane Estate in 1910. Crane was captivated by the beautiful landscape, and over the next two decades worked with some of America's leading architects and landscape architects to shape his summer retreat, sited with hilltop vistas of the Atlantic in an area of the property known as Castle Hill. In 1928, Castle Hill was crowned with a 59-room Stuart-style mansion designed by world-renowned architect David Adler. In 2007, Chestnut Street Church, already on the National Registry of Historic Places, was purchased and completely renovated, turning it into a locally loved and nationally acclaimed restaurant, Grace, in 2009. Grace operated as a full service restaurant and event space until 2019 when we again reimagined the beautiful structure to concentrate only on the event side of the business so we could make more room for beautiful weddings, exciting functions and our commitment to having space for our community efforts.

Our barn uses centuries - old techniques and traditions of joining heavy timber frames with a mortise and tenon method, supported by wooden pegs and brackets.
