The house, known today as Reid Hall, was completed in 1908 and the family moved in on May 5, led by J. Ogden Armour, until approximately September of 1927. Many of the house’s mantle pieces, there are 15, and the paneling of the library reading room (or former living room), were imported from Paris, Vienna and London, including the marble dining room while the main walls are of Italian marble, the central panels of each wall have been painted over the plaster to simulate actual marble. It is also reputed that the marble staircase was built with the primary purpose in mind that their daughter, Lolita Ogden Armour, would descend the curving stairway on her wedding day, which she did in 1921, to John J. Mitchell, Jr. Eventually the property was sold to Lake Forest Academy where classes began in 1948. Today, Academy grounds total approximately 170 acres.

The Haight is a wedding and event venue located in Elgin, IL and is enveloped by a historic neighborhood, for a romantic and storied setting for your wedding. This converted warehouse was originally constructed in the 1890s. It began as the Elgin Storage & Transfer Company. Over the years numerous companies used the building until 1985 when it was bought by John Haight, who refurbished the building. The Haight features two floors and a rooftop area. Exposed ductwork is accented by brick walls and hardwood flooring. There are multiple spaces for hosting your ceremony, reception, and a number of other wedding-related gatherings. On the first floor, there is room for up to 175 guests standing. This makes the 2,000-square-foot space ideal for the cocktail reception. The second floor features 7,000-square-feet of space. 300 people seated or 250 people seated with a dance floor can fit in this event area. Welcome to 223 Main! Located in the Heart of Downtown Lemont’s historical district, just three doors down from the Metra Station, 223 Main boasts a storied origin. Initially built in the 1900s as a double storefront, it transformed throughout the century into a department store, political office, coffee shop, and now an event space. 223 Main is owned and operated by a local Lemont couple, Hector and Lauren Tamayo. Hector grew up in Lemont and always loved the downtown area. At the beginning of 2020, the coffee shop leasing the space decided to close down. While brainstorming what the building could be next, the Covid-19 Pandemic hit. Lauren and Hector decided to cancel their destination wedding and remodel 223 Main. After having their intimate wedding at the building, they decided to officially launch 223 Main and open the space up to the community to enjoy.
