In 1996 sousaphone player Bennie Pete was instrumental in merging two former Fortier High School student groups, the High Steppers and the Looney Tunes Brass Bands, to form the Hot 8. The players grew up together and maintain strong, family-like bonds and regular membership. The band can be larger than many younger groups often featuring ten members, including three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, bass drum, and snare drum. The Hot 8’s funk style is a blend of influences from the Dirty Dozen and Rebirth, with more elements of contemporary r&b, rap, and its local variation, “bounce.”

Sean Huddleston has made a living as a music teacher, gigging musician, and composer for over 10 years, with many years of classical training at the University of Louisiana both in guitar performance and music composition. He currently lives in Opelousas, Louisiana with his wife and new baby. Unfaded Brass Band is comprised of 10 members from New Orleans and surrounding areas that have assembled together to incorporate elements of hip-hop, jazz, soul, and pop music and added the brass band framework to it. . The band has members from Mississippi, but most were born and raised in New Orleans. After being displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, members of the band fled to Dallas and planted their roots within the city. In 2014, our founder, Jermaine Devezin saw the need to bring the brass band culture to the Dallas area based on the growing number of fellow New Orleanians who along with the band now calls Dallas home. sband/

Dallas-Fort Worth saxophonist and jazz musician Justin Pierce began his musical career in the musically diverse region of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast. He has performed across the United States and internationally, earned degrees in both classical and jazz styles, and taught at the secondary and college levels. Justin holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in Saxophone Performance and a Master of Music (M.M) in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas. As an active musician, he leads The Justin Pierce Jazz Group, which performs regularly in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
