It wasn’t love at first sight, more like annoyance at first sight. We met at a friend’s house gathering and Kevin was discussing his ER trauma stories and love of chocolate. I wasn’t fond of hearing about accidents and so quickly tuned out the conversation. Fate, however, had other plans! Our same friends had another house gathering, which gave us the second encounter I needed. I found myself seeking more information on this handsome fireman. That would be the start of our forever love story, as a few months later, we were exclusive. The road to becoming a couple, wasn’t the simplest. Kevin had other “friends” he had to let go, and one almost cost him his forever happiness. He also had to meet my daughter, and gain her approval, as she doesn’t play about her Mommy. Luckily, Kevin passed the test and was able to make me his girlfriend. A year later, he upgraded the title to Fiancé. Of course, even that didn’t go right the first time. My ring was custom made and was lost in the mail by the jeweler! Kevin had a beautiful weekend planned for the two of us, with reservations at an amazing restaurant and hotel. He had to pop the question, with a loaner ring. Can you imagine wearing a loaner diamond for weeks, and having to give it back? Luckily, my true ring was 1000 times better! Which of course meant, I got him to get down on his knee, TWICE. Our second engagement, we invited the family to enjoy in the celebration. My King was still extremely nervous when popping the question for the second time, I’m not sure if he thought I’d changed my mind over the last few weeks. I said yes, again, of course, and I can’t wait to become Mrs. Savage.
So it was the summer of 2018. Right after the Silver Room block party. I was invited to Rodney and Ravens house because “Raven had too many of her female friends over and Rodney needed some guys to even out the room”. Not his exact words but you get the drift. I came over and was stunned by Zakerah's beauty. When she stepped away I inquired about her. Rodney and Raven both said nothing but positive things. So like all great men do I stepped up and shot my shot. Long story short, not going into much detail, it didn’t go in. Fast forward. It’s now November. The 10th to be exact. Once again Raven had the house filled with women and Rodney needed to even out the room. When I arrived in the room I felt the gaze of an angel peering in my direction. It was coming from Zakerah. She had on this forest green jump suit. As I walked by, things seemed to be in slow motion. I vaguely remember her whispering to one of her friends “oh he can get it!” But that’s neither here nor there. All throughout the night we had conversation in passing. Until it was time for us to disperse. I walked Zakerah to her car and the conversation continued. We talked the entire night away and we’ve been talking and hanging ever since. Fast forward again. It’s now February 2020. Right before Corona shut down the world. Zakerah and I decided to get out of the city and enjoy some alone time for Valentine Day weekend. This was the perfect opportunity for me to propose. So in this crowded restaurant I got down on one knee, nervous as all get out and.... she said yes. Loaner ring and all but that’s a story for another time.
