I always say that I was born in Cleveland and raised in my mom's kitchen. After completing the pastry program at Le Cordon Bleu, I worked at SusieCakes and taught classes at The Gourmandise School before deciding to open my own business! My mom Gail started her baking business, Piece of Cake, in 1963 so it's only fitting that she is the face of my business. I want to pay homage to the business she started years ago by baking for all who appreciate and understand that the brilliance of the perfectly satisfying dessert is the company you eat it with. Piece of Cake LA is that homey tastes-like-mom's flavor, with a modern twist.

The summer of 2013, Malaka approached her bestie since high school, Erica, with a crazy idea: let's start a business! Our love for pastries and food led us into the kitchen and from then on we were Two Chicks in the Mix. It was that very summer where we test baked items like our Lavender Cake and Mixed Berry Pie, which are staples on our menu today. With roots in South LA, we intend to bring a new approach to bakeries in our community. From sourcing California-made, organic ingredients to making everything from scratch, we aim to create an experience that feels and tastes thoughtfully and lovingly made.

We proudly bake off our scratch-made pastries and treats daily. We use real butter, sugar, and flour and whip everything up with an abundance of patience and love. We proudly source many of our ingredients locally and have partnered with the following local companies to provide delicious products while supporting our local economy. Chocolate Fish Coffee roasters provide our coffee beans, and we make our own syrups to crate amazing coffees! K&K Chai provides all our teas that we hand pack. We also make our own concentrates for our chai lattes and tea spritzers.

Sugar Lips Protein Cakery officially launched in 2019. Our team thrives on helping our customers achieve their health focused lifestyle goals. We offer a wide range of treats that are Gluten Free, Low Calorie, Low Carb, and Protein based. Since our opening we've developed a loyal fan base, all it takes is one bite. Welcome. Our love for baking and creating art in cakes began over 25 years ago. My mother who has been the creator of all Sweet Oven Bliss’s cakes began her business as a means to provide for her six children. Struggling every day to provide us with a better life than her own, she got the courage to go to school to gain the knowledge and skills to become a cake decorator. Soon after completing the school courses, my mother then took the next step and began to sell her cake slices. After school, we would come home to find my mother and her half sheet plastic containers full of cake slices ready for sale.

Born in the Philippines & raised in Southern California, experimenting with elements from her Filipino heritage and creating American classics with a twist. Mary’s work in the community goes beyond baking cakes. In 2013, she founded a local bakers club, SoCal Bakers Meet Up. Bringing together bakers, decorators, party planners of all levels, from beginners to professionals. Building a community designed to provide help & understanding within the industry.

I began my career as a Pastry chef with my degree in baking and pastry arts from the Culinary Institute of America in 2006. I moved to Las Vegas to prove to parents “baking wasn’t just a hobby” I worked my way up the culinary ladder working for Thomas Keller, Jean Georges, Joel Robuchon & Tom Coliccho, including catering to celebrities and high need clientele 24-7. After I had my son, my life took a change and I found myself to be a single mother looking for a better life. I met my husband and he has encouraged me to take my passion for cakes to another level. CAKElyfe by Nattie J was born and now I’m a stay at home mom/custom cake artist.

Laura Curtis, a Culinary Institute of America grad, was working as a R&D chef when she made her first batch of bright pink, tart & fruity Raspberry Hibiscus marshmallows. Her husband suggested she name the new amply fluffy creations Malvi, short for malvavisco, the Spanish word for marshmallow. She created Malvi Mallows using European-Style butter and Fair-Trade chocolate to make Malvi cookies extra rich, and dried hibiscus flowers, locally roasted espresso, whole vanilla bean, and organic Georgia peanuts to maximize marshmallow flavors, then built a business so that everyone can party s'more.
