We met in the spring of 2017 in Seattle at Will’s brother’s birthday party. Samantha came with a date, but Will swooped in and got her number. Our first date was a tandem bike ride down to the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle. It only took a few more dates to find out that Sam could keep up with Will backpacking, and Will would let Sam order anything she wanted at a restaurant. It also helped that Sam quit her job, so we could spend the summer exploring the mountains, rivers, and city life around Seattle. In the fall, Sam revealed that she was moving to San Francisco. Will realized that he had found a good catch, and a little thing like changing West Coast cities was totally worth it. We spent the next two years living in the middle of one of the densest parts of San Francisco, where Samantha walked to her office downtown. We skied in the Sierras, paraglided over cliffs next to the Pacific Ocean, and ate in Michelin star restaurants. Then in spring of 2020, we packed up the car and headed to the Rocky Mountains for what was going to be a couple weeks, and turned out to be a year. The first stop on the road trip was the headwaters of the Salmon River, where Will popped the question in a hot spring. We locked it down just in time for the lockdown. It’s been a looong engagement as we waited for a good time to get married, and in the meantime Sam traded her stressful software engineering job for a small startup, Will followed in Sam’s footsteps and learned how to program, and we moved back to the Pacific Northwest where our newly portable jobs let us live in the small town of White Salmon, Washington. We are so grateful to all our family and friends who have been with us every step of the way. Thank you for supporting our relationship, and we’ll see you in Texas!
