How We Met

October 17, 2014

It was a night of "Coffee, Community, and A Capella," as coined by Shanece Brent, Staff Writer of the Carolinian. An informal performance by the UNCG Spartones, along with other groups, filled Tate Street Coffee House to the brim with college students. As the President of the Spartones, Wesley was focused on having a professionally appropriate performance by drinking his Chai Latte on stage, even taking a drink in the middle of his solo on "I Get Around." Aimee was in attendance, watching with her group of friends, and stuck in the middle of a sea of people. As the coffee filled Aimee's bladder, she made her way to the bathroom, but the doors were closed and she was unsure if she would be bursting in on somebody. Wesley had been by the door, since it was one of the few places to stand, and knew it was unoccupied, so while she hesitated to open it, he opened the door for her and winked as she smiled and shuffled in. Little did he know he'd be opening doors for her for the rest of their lives. https://carolinianuncg.com/2014/11/10/coffee-community-and-a-capella/

How We Started

August 31st, 2015

Wesley spent many months on the other side of the planet, studying in Australia. Having founded a friendship before he left, Wesley and Aimee kept tight in touch online, updating each other almost daily on each other's adventures. They began to miss each other's conversation on days they didn't talk and when he returned they realized they didn't have to go without each other. A movie marathon with their group of friends ended with a suddenly private viewing of The Babadook that gave Aimee and Wesley an opportunity to talk about starting their relationship.

Our Engagement

December 7th, 2017

After over a year's planning Wesley and Aimee found themselves in Disney World. They spent their date night in the Magic Kingdom during the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. They found some vegan ice cream and enjoyed the parades and festivities all night. Before the final, unbelievable fireworks show, they went to get some quick eats at Peco's Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in which Wesley mentioned having a nervous stomach. From there, they found their way to the middle of Main Street, where photographers lined the way between an enormous Christmas tree and Cinderella's Castle. After double and triple checking that Aimee is happy with pictures in front of the tree instead of the Castle, she gets set to have her picture taken as Wesley put down the bags at the foot of the photographer. As he grabs the ring out of Aimee's bag, he tells the photographer, "I'm going to propose," to which she replied, "Got it. Wait until my signal." After a couple snaps, Wesley asked Aimee, "Are you ready?" He went on one knee and asked, "Will you marry me?" She nodded, hopped around, and said yes as the hundred people surrounding us began to applaud. The photographer posed us, and sent us on our merry way, to end our night with a sky full of phenomenal fireworks.
