A group of our friends decided to go to the beach one night and when we got back to campus everyone walked back to their dorms as a group. Our dorms were the last two so when we realized it would be just us walking back together, we both assumed it would be an awkward forced conversation between the two of us. Cue easygoing conversation that surprised both of us and we ended up standing outside chatting for a few extra minutes! That was the last night of the semester and we knew we were going to be RA's together the next year, so we reconnected in the fall and immediately became fast friends.
The proposal was the definition of Wes' classic long con. A few months before Wes proposed, we had agreed (at Wes' suggestion) that it would be silly for us to get engaged before we ended our long distance because...what's the point? So when we planned the best vacation ever to Yosemite, a proposal was the last thing on Laura's mind. Wes didn't know when or where he was going to propose but as soon as he saw the view from that hike, he knew it was the spot. As the trail opened up to this gorgeous view, we dropped our backpacks and Laura was looking at the view and exclaiming "this view is beautiful and THIS VIEW IS BEAUTIFUL and this view is beautiful!". Laura noticed Wes getting something out of his backpack and assumed (hoped) it was a snack. When Laura turned back around from yelling about the view, Wes was on one knee and said "Hey Laura, will you marry me?" in the most casual voice. Laura was (kind of) speechless for the first time in her entire life and just said "Oh my God!" about 700 times. We can't wait to share this celebration of all our love and laughter with you all!
