How We Met (Tim's Perspective)

For me, our story began in the high desert of Utah, hundreds of miles away from civilization. One of my best friends (and groomsman) had gotten stuck while we were on an off-road camping trip, and I had driven a few miles to the top of a hill, the only spot with cell service. While I helped guide some rescuers who were on the way, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to call a girl I had just started texting with. What I thought might be a ten-minute call turned into an hour-long conversation and I knew that I had to meet her once I returned to civilization. It was certainly a strange time to start a relationship, as Covid-19 went from a passing conversation piece to a hard reality. Since virtually all public places were locked down indefinitely, we both elected to trust each other and have our first date at Victoria’s apartment. Thankfully, it was a fantastic date and went better than I could have imagined. This girl was smart, funny, and beautiful; And best of all, she seemed to like me! I couldn’t wait to see her again. We had a few more dates after that first one, and despite still being on lockdown, I had more fun just hanging out with Victoria than I’d had on any fancy “normal” dates in the past. I knew she was something special, and on April 5th I officially asked her to be my girlfriend. We would go on to share many experiences over the next few months, including a rather fateful vacation, where in the midst of chaos Victoria showed her true colors as a caring, confident, and truly extraordinary human. I was hooked and I knew it. Two years later, as I stood in the Salt Flats and asked her to marry me, I had no doubts she was the woman I wanted to be my wife. Thankfully, she said yes.

How We Met (Victoria's Perspective)

Well, for me, it started when I drove to my parents new house in Las Vegas for spring break. Due to some virus taking over, my spring break was extended. After the extension, it was revealed that the semester would be fully remote indefinitely. I knew I would have to go back, but there was a fear of being secluded in my apartment in Salt Lake City that made me want to wait as long as I could until driving back. Plus, Las Vegas was warm and I had my parents to annoy. Why not keep the party going? I got a message from this guy and it made me laugh (mainly because it was SO bad). I was in not looking to meet or date anyone at the time (hello, covid). This guy was in fact Tim, and after a few days of texting, we had our first phone call. I was, of course, nervous. However, the conversation flowed. After a few minutes of our call, I texted my best friend Gabriella in all caps, "HE HAS AN ACCENT???" which she replied, "what kind?" - I quickly texted back "I think southern." I thought it was cute for sure. I didn't realize how late it got, but we had to have talked for over two hours. Tim then would ask when I was coming back home to Utah so he could take me out on a date. I knew I had to go back and go on this date. So, we set a day and time, I packed up my car, and headed home. I was anxious before hand, naturally. Since everything was closed for covid, we agreed to meet at my apartment. I remember sliding to the door once Tim knocked, repeating to myself to be calm. I thought I would be anxious throughout the date, but I surprisingly wasn't. The date was fun! I did find it odd he brought a backpack with his laptop - but he wanted to show me YouTube videos. After watching all the Tiny Desk videos, I brought up the idea to play Mario Party on my very very cool (first edition) Gamecube. Overall, it was a fun date. I was excited to see him again, of course! I remember seeing him a lot after that. He drove back up to see me the very next day. And the next. Then, on April 5 of 2020, Tim said "Hey, I really like you. Would you want to be my girlfriend?" and I, of course, said yes. I knew he was going to be a special person in my life the moment we met, but I definitely knew he was going to be more after we got lost in the Nevada desert in the middle of the night. He drove hours on a dark and bumpy road & had a stressed out passenger, but was nothing but calm and reassuring. Two years later, Tim took me on a very unexpected and unplanned trip to the Salt Flats and on October 29, 2022, he had asked me to marry him. I without hesitation, said absolutely.
