Due to Covid, we made the heart-wrenching decision to postpone out wedding. We just want all of our friends and family to be safe! Stay tuned!
Tom and I met in Chicago in 2013. Ah, those were the days. I still haven't heard the end of it from when I panicked and introduced him as "my friend, Tom". Although to be fair- we had never had a real conversation about what we were. Actually, we still haven't. Oh my God- are we still just friends?! After being together (possibly.... still unclear) in Chicago for a couple years, he basically caveman tossed me over his shoulder and drug me to live in Royal Oak, MI. My one stipulation for moving was we get a dog. Enter Luna into our lives. My true soulmate. In between training for half Ironmans (Ironmen?) and our full Ironman we brought Kona into our lives. This was our first real mistake as a couple (JUST KIDDING I LOVE THAT DOG PROBABLY MORE THAN I LOVE TOM). Ok I think I am starting to run out of characters. So then we move to Lexington, KY. He loves me. I love him. We get engaged. Fin.
Amy and I met on a crisp day in Chicago on September 26th. Per usual, I was perfectly on time and met Amy at Goose Island Brewery. Afterwards we walked to the rooftop bar at the Lincoln Hotel and, of course, Amy brought her bike “Ruby” along. Little did I know, not being awkward about her walking the bike all the way (1.2 miles) was the major test of the night. The next major hurdle in our relationship was when I moved and added a whopping 2 miles to Amy’s bike commute. Amy has often told me this was almost the end to our relationship. We loved our lives in Chicago for the two years we were together there. This typically involved going to Nookies Too for brunch, having way too much coffee, and dropping by Fleet Feet (literally any time we were close, more on this later!). We also loved to go to several of the craft breweries throughout Chicago. Amy even convinced me to join her in her love for triathlons. What transpired was one of the most rewarding and humbling experiences of my life. It was my first glimpse into Amy’s incredible drive and perseverance. We opened the next chapter into our lives when we moved in together in Michigan. In many ways, the events that took place in Michigan forever shaped our future together. We found our amazing fur babies, completed an Ironman, and Amy discovered her need for something more than the corporate life. It was during that this time that Amy realized she wanted to blaze her own trails and open a Fleet Feet franchise. This lead us south to our current home in Kentucky. Not long into our relationship (just six years!), I chose to propose to Amy after a short hike on the cliffs of Berea. I totally didn’t panic every step worried about the dogs falling off the side of the cliff. The views were incredible and all Amy could say was “Really?”; she still hasn’t officially said yes yet! We can’t wait to share our wedding with all of you!
I first started thinking Tom was going to propose to me in 2016 at our Ironman. I had this image of him finding me on the course or after the race and getting down on one knee. Nope. Then in 2017 we went to Disney World with Cristin and Laurel and I thought it might happen then. Nope. Then a month later in 2017 Tom tried to kill me with a surprise birthday party. At the time I didn't know it was a surprise party, but I knew he was up to something. Nope. *though this was still fricking awesome* In 2018 we took a trip to Breckenridge. Ok- this was DEFINITELY it. He was going to propose on top of a mountain right before a run. Nope. In 2019 we went to San Diego. There was surfing, beaches, kayaking, whale watching. Was there a ring? Nope. February 2020 we had a trip to Sedona, AZ planned. I may or may not have told him if I come back un-engaged I was also coming home without him. A few days before our trip we went out to Berea, KY to take the girls hiking. We got to an overlook and I was sitting with Kona just taking it all in. Next thing I knew Tom was on one knee with a ring box in hand. Finally.
