Our paths first crossed during our time at Case Western Reserve University, where we navigated the challenges and triumphs of being Black students in a predominantly white institution. It wasn't until Vanessa's senior year and Levite's junior year that fate intervened and our story truly began. Vanessa was tasked with inviting friends to a mutual friend, Oluchi's, surprise birthday party. Vanessa extended the invitation to Levite via GroupMe, and their conversation continued from there. While Levite and Vanessa were getting to know each other, another mutual friend, Kato, intervened. Kato told Levite that Vanessa was interested in him! This gave Levite the assurance he needed to open up more to Vanessa about his feelings for her. Despite our seemingly opposite interests and backgrounds, we found an unexpected connection that defied explanation. Our first date, watching Jordan Peele’s "Us" at the movies, marked the beginning of a unique journey together. As our relationship grew, we realized that our differences complemented each other in ways we never expected. On April 22, 2019, we officially became a couple.
