Central Park, a park created in 1858 to address the recreational needs of the rapidly growing New York City. Its original purpose was to offer urban dwellers an experience of the countryside, a place to escape from the stresses of urban life and to commune with nature and fellow New Yorkers. Over 150 years later, the park still provides this essential purpose, welcoming all visitors and accommodating newer forms of recreational activities. With 42 million visits a year, Central Park is one of the most visited urban parks in the country and one of the most popular destinations in New York City. Central Park incorporates a variety of landscapes and experiences. Its 843 acres included sweeping lawns, picturesque woodlands, meandering streams and broad lakes. Over time, additional features have been added to the park—including baseball and soccer fields, a carousel, two skating rinks, a zoo, formal gardens, commemorative monuments and concert and theater venues.

Founded in 2004, the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which encompasses New York State’s Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, and Kings (Brooklyn) Counties, was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. To date, the organization has inducted more than 100 musicians and music industry executives, and also offers education programs and scholarships to Long Island students, sponsors the Long Island Sound Award, and features traveling educational exhibits, including a state-of-the-art mobile museum. In 2014, when the Billy Joel Band was inducted into the LIMEFF, Billy Joel said this in a statement: “After The Stranger was released, people began to recognize that the ‘Long Island Sound’ wasn’t just a body of water.” Indeed, it isn’t.
