We met back in high school through band, theatre, and shared classes. We drifted apart in college as many friends do, but when we later re-connected, we literally couldn’t stop talking to each other. There was a sense of ease and comfort in our conversations, and our shared sense of humor kept us laughing together even though we lived in two different states. It was no surprise when we eventually started dating, despite being long distance.
Lauren proposed in the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building. While waiting in line for our table, Jon leaned over to Lauren and whispered, "this would be the tackiest place for a proposal." Despite having a plan B proposal location, Lauren decided to double down. Our table ended up being right next to the window, but also directly across from two very loud tourists and a crying baby. Very romantic. Just when Lauren thought all hope was lost and she'd have to give up on the idea of proposing in a tourist trap, the loud guests finally left, the sun started to set and the ambience finally felt right. She worked up the courage to pull out the ring box and Jon responded with, “Are you joking?” (He did eventually say yes once he was no longer in shock!) It may be one of the least romantic proposal stories you've ever heard, but it's fun to tell, and we wouldn't have it any other way! We hope we will have the honor to celebrate, laugh, and dance with you on our wedding day. It would mean the world to us! -The future Slowik-Goulds
