John likes to say he picked Claire up at a free clinic. Claire likes to roll her eyes and tell him the van shuttle to the medical student-run clinic doesn’t count. Either way, they fell in love over their mutual propensity to wear polyester white lab coats and debate which is the best organ system in the body (John says the heart, Claire says bones and muscles), as well as all the usual things of romance and really bad jokes.
John knew after three weeks of dating that he loved Claire, and told her this. She, very eloquently, responded with "What?" and then smacked him in the shoulder for making a joke. It turned out, of course, that he wasn't joking, but his shoulder did hurt for his efforts. After thinking about it for just a short while, Claire told him over take out Chinese food that she loved him too, and that was that.
Well, both Claire and John had childhoods spent criss-crossing the country, so France was obviously on the short list from the beginning. It's also close to home for Claire (and she speaks the language!), so she thought it was a good idea that John agreed with her that France was great for a wedding. Also, Claire's family dog Lana checked her social calendar and decided France in June worked for her.
