Getting to & Staying on St. John

The Wedding Website of Emily Swartz and Alex Romano
St. John, the smallest and most idyllic of the three United States Virgin Islands, is best known for its many white sand beaches, turquoise bays abounding in colorful corals & rainbows of tropical fish and endless vistas of green velvet hills. Only nine miles long & three miles wide, two thirds of the island is the Virgin Islands National Park, so its spectacular beaches and untouched forests will remain that way for generations to come.

Flight

STT

To get to St. John, you will need to fly to St. Thomas (STT) as St. John does not have an airport. We suggest trying to find a major airport from where you are. They typically have lower cost flights with less stops (looking at you BUF). Upon arrival to St. Thomas, you will take a taxi to the Red Hook Ferry Terminal. Approximate cost for the taxi is $15-$20 per person, depending on luggage (more bags more $). When you walk out of the airport, there will be many taxis, the driver will know exactly what you mean when you say, “Red Hook Ferry to St. John, please!” The ferry leaves every hour on the hour to St. John from 6 a.m. until midnight. The ferry fare is $8.15 per person and $4 per bag, each way. Cash only for taxis, cash or credit for the ferry.

Hotel

Lodging

We recommend getting a house or hotel around the greater Cruz Bay area. There is no room block for this wedding as hotels on the island do not accommodate them. Please reach out to Michelle (michelle@paradiseplanningusvi.com) and she can help you make reservations for your party size and price point. If you want to book yourself and not through Michelle: Hotels on St. John: There are many hotels in Cruz Bay such as: Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel, Grande Bay Resort, Coconut Coast Villas, Stone Post Estate, Gallows Point Resort, The Westin, Island Abodes, Mango Terrace or St. John Inn. Google the hotel for rates & availability. Group Housing Please be aware of the minimum night stay when booking a villa. Several family members have booked through Caribbean Villas (https://www.caribbeanvilla.com/). Mention Swartz/Romano if you choose to book with them. AirBnB (www.airbnb.com) and VRBO (www.vrbo.com) are both excellent options.

Rental Car

Getting Around

Driving on the left: The first major thing that first time visitors to St. John notice is that the left side of the road is actually the “right” side of the road! When driving, remember to keep left at all times. Getting Around: There will be shuttles to the wedding ceremony and reception. However, no Uber on island! Taxis are readily available on St. John. They will take you to Cruz Bay, Coral Bay or any of the beaches along the way. Your hotel or villa should provide taxi driver suggestions & here are a few more: Chico: 340-690-6507 Pipe: 340-344-4234 Renting a car: If you plan on staying for more than 3 or 4 days, and are staying in a villa it is suggested you rent a car. There are plenty of rental options such as L&L Jeep Rental, St. John Car Rental, Sunshine's Jeep Rental, Mr. Pipers Jeep Rental & many more. You can also rent a car at the airport and take the car ferry to St. John.
