A masseria is a set of rural buildings used as farms, typical in Southern Italy, that were stored and protected in large stone buildings where entire communities lived. Susafa is an eighteenth century masseria in the heart of a nature reserve, the Madonie Regional Natural Park! It is run by a family who have farmed and lived there for five generations. It hosts overnight guests in rooms restored from the old labourers’ dwellings and has a restaurant, lounge, terrace and pool!
Susafa has a pool, which is where we'll be spending most of our free time. The masseria also has a restaurant, lounge, terrace and organizes cooking classes and day trips. Find the details on cooking classes and day trips here: http://www.susafa.com/en/portfolio-item/activities/ To organize, contact Susafa directly: info@susafa.com
We were inspired to get married in Sicily when we took a 10-day summer trip around the island in 2017. Sondra has Sicilian heritage (her dad was born in Monreale) and although far from Enrico's northern Italian roots, this is a special place for both of us!
Check out our "Around Sicily" tab for some of our favorite places reachable by car within a few hours. Also feel free to reach out directly for more detailed trip planning. Where we recommend definitely depends on how much time you have! To help with this would give Sondra great joy. Lonely Planet also has a great site for tips in Sicily: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/italy/sicily
We have events planned for Friday through Sunday, so we recommend planning to arrive as early as Friday for lunch and staying until Sunday early afternoon!
Yes! We have a party planned for Friday night and brunch on Sunday and would love for you to join for all of it. We understand if your travel plans do not allow it, just let us know via the RSVP tab!
The weather should be between 57-70˚F / 14-21˚C in October, but who knows these days with global warming. Anyway, we're envisioning smart casual for Friday, suits and dresses for Saturday and casual attire for Sunday. We advise against stilettos for the ladies!
For the best cassatelle, stop at "Bar La Sorgente, Specialità Cassatelle di Ricotta & Dolci Siciliani" (Address: Contrada Gemma D'Oro, 92, 91014 Castellammare del Golfo). It’s 30 min west of Palermo Airport (opposite direction of Susafa)
We highly recommend renting a car at whatever airport you fly into in Sicily. Choose a car with full insurance (we'll happily share our horror stories of crashing our car (twice) in Sicily) and also requesting an automatic if you don't drive stick. Sicily doesn't have the best public transport and / or ride sharing options.
Check out this spreadsheet to let people know your arrival and departure time and determine if there is anyone you might be able to coordinate with! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1esj_3BJ84tGnZ7QMF7qcMcXmqlnLU7todTlNXZA6_MM/edit#gid=0 Also, if you need help organizing a taxi / car to / from the airport, please reach out to: tizianagallina@susafa.com
We’d love to celebrate with your whole family so yes, kids are absolutely invited! For guests with little ones that might be interested in coordinating a babysitter during the wedding, please reach out to Giovanna at: wedding@susafa.com
