We met in the basement of a friend's house at a birthday party playing Century Pong. I thought Shawn was cute and asked Dave (co-bestman) to "hook a sister up." Dave proceeded to play middle school matchmaker until Shawn asked me to Honda Prom a month later.
Let's flashback to a magical time: January 2020. What a time to be blissfully unaware of the impending year(s) to come. I was driving home from work when I was just thinking about Suzy and how I don't think I would ever find someone better for me than her (barf, I know). During the same drive, I called my brother and said, "Timmy, bro, big guy, I think I'm going to ask Suzy to marry me". We talked for a little while about how, when, and where I should do it. We came to the conclusion that I shouldn't rush into getting a ring just to propose during our trip to, and I kid you not, China in a few weeks. I'll glaze over the part where we go through Asia for two weeks in the beginning of a pandemic for time sake here. Jumping to June 2020 when many things were still closed, I still wanted to propose in a special way. I would have done it on a trip as Suzy loves traveling, but lockdown nixed that idea. My next thought was to propose in front of COSI in Columbus where Suzy and I had our first date, but Timmy suggested reaching out to COSI to see if I could propose inside despite it still being closed. That's when it hit me, I wanted to make and play a video for Suzy in the planetarium at COSI. From June to August, most mornings, I would wake up a few hours before Suzy (because we were still locked in the house together all. the. time.) and I would compile old footage and edit this video until she woke up. Simultaneously to making the video, I had to meet and communicate with the jeweler to get the ring designed and created, and plan out the actual proposal at COSI, all without Suzy's knowledge. Originally, there was some resistance from COSI, but I pled my case and sent them a rough draft of the video. I don't know why, but after that, they were on board 100%. I had the video, the venue, and the ring. Then I had to trick Suzy into going to a closed museum in a pandemic on a Thursday. Through some well crafted stories, I convinced her and she had no idea...
I thought it was a regular Thursday night and we were going on a little date to checkout Honda's new exhibit at COSI. Shawn told me it was a scheduled visit (since it was Covid) so no one else was going to be there (looking back, I have no idea how I believed that). We walked up to the planetarium and my only thought was, "Oh, I guess Honda put together a hype video for the exhibit". We sat down and dramatic instrumental music began playing. On the screen I saw "Hey you, yeah you..". I looked over at Shawn with a quizzical look on my face thinking "this is a very serious Honda hype video...maybe he put it together." Shawn motioned for me to look at the screen. The next thing I saw were images of the back of a woman's head with black hair...and then I realized... the woman on the screen was ME.
