In January 2019 Alex, new to Perrysburg, arrived to the Village Idiot with her friend late one Friday night. Shane and his friends were about to leave, but when the girls walked through the door, they decided to stay. Alex's friend introduced the two of them and after just a few brief hours of knowing each other, he asked Alex if she'd like to join him on the firm trip to Mexico as his plus one in less than two weeks. She thought he was joking (and possibly a serial killer), but the next day he said he still meant it. After some thought (and a lot of googling and background verification), Alex agreed to go and just 10 days after they met Alex and Shane were off on a 5 day trip to Cancun. It could have been a disaster, but it turned out to be an early sign that this indeed was something special. They'll be getting married in June of 2023; four and a half years after the trip that started it all.

Alex's parents, Jeff & Alba, were in town to celebrate Father's Day with Alex, Shane, Shane's Parents (Jeff & Karen), and Shane's Grandparents (Dan & Judy). The Saturday before, the whole group had plans to spend the day at Kelley's Island together so everyone was up and getting ready for day. Alex, just out of the shower herself, was helping her mom upstairs when she heard Shane yell "honey, can you please help me with something downstairs?!" She walked down the back staircase to find Shane in the living room on one knee with a dozen roses behind him and Chris Stapleton playing on the record player. She was in a towel, hair soaking wet and couldn't believe THIS is how it was happening. Shane of course was recording the whole thing on his phone... pointed at the front staircase. Fast forward a few hours and everyone spent the day celebrating together at Kelley's Island.
