We met standing in line waiting for food on the first day of Mark's freshmen year at New Mexico Tech, which also happend to be my 20th birthday. We were both wearing shirts from camps that we grew up going to that happened to be 15 minutes away from each other, and hit it off right away talking about our camp experiences. Our personalities just clicked in the rite way and I knew then that I wanted you to be part of my life. After a while I got shy and turned back around in line to get food and went back to my dorm to eat as Mark went to find friends to hang out with. It ended up that our friend groups overlapped and we spent a lot of time with each over, as I got over my shyness and began to fall in love with Mark. We became best friends and spent all our time together going for walks, cooking meals, making spontaneous trips to Albuquerque, and doing homework. Really just enjoying every moment we could spend with each other.
The Proposal was a complete and total surprise to Torrie. There were three requirements that we had talked about : 1) Make sure there was family there, 2) It needed to be a surprise, and 3) make sure her nails were done. Number 3 was a lot harder than I expected but with the help of her mama (Tasha) we got it accomplished. The actual proposal was a compilation of ideas between my sister, mama, sister-in-law, aunt, her mama, and myself aka "The Team". It was a family effort to make sure I gave Torrie the proposal that she had always dreamed about. Scrappbooking has been an important part of Torrie and I's long distance relationship over the last three years; so it seemed appropriate for it to be front and center when I popped the question. After much though and consideration we decided that my sister and I's graduation party would be the best time to do it with all the close family and friends we had invited to be there. Torrie and her families impending arrival had the team and I scrambling that Friday morning to get the scrapbook done. This was the prop/present I wanted to use in order to help distract her. We had just cleaned up the table and was putting the last of the stuff away as Torrie and her family got to our house. As people started arriving I grew anxious. My sister and I were supposed to give our obligatory thank you for coming speeches after the photographer I hired got there so I could give mine and tie the proposal in with it. One thing led to another and my sister went up to give her speech early and my mom would not let me wait so I ended just going up and saying my thanks and postponing the proposal. Que the photographer an hour and a half later. I got up scrapbook in hand and asked for everyone's attention. I began to speak, called Torrie up front with me, gave her the scrapbook, and as she opened it I got down on one knee; she looked down at me as she realized what was happening and I asked the question that would change our lives forever.
