It's hard to determine when Seamus and I really met. Technically, I met Seamus in 2nd grade when we were seven and eight years old. He and I both went to elementary and middle school together, but rarely talked...because you know, boys have cooties! We went to different high schools and I honestly forgot he existed...whoops! Seamus and I met again several years later at a Christmas party. Seamus was not planning to go to this party, but when he saw I was there he knew he had to come anyways. At this party, we ended up talking for a while and somehow ended up under a mistletoe where we shared our first kiss. We've been together ever since.
This was a long time coming as I’m sure you all know. I flew back to Missoula from Texas to celebrate Megan’s birthday, but little did she know, this wasn’t going to be a typical birthday. After dating for 5 ½ years you think it’d be easy, right? Well I thought so too, until the day came. I woke up very nervous and these feelings intensified throughout the day. I sent Megan on a scavenger hunt where she made stops at a few places that are special to us. The goal was to find a way to surprise her, even though she knew it was coming. Her last clue led to my grandparents’ old farm. I set the clue on an old whisky barrel in the middle of the field. She thought it was just another stop on her adventure. I was hiding behind a fence, Googling, “What knee do you propose on?” when she arrived. When I saw her, my heart sank. Talk about a wave of emotions...here is my gorgeous, jaw dropping, soon-to-be fiancé walking through a beautiful Montana field, while I am hiding behind a fence sweating profusely. As she walked past my hiding spot, I snuck up behind her. When I said her name, tears immediately started pouring down her face, nervous sweat still pouring down mine. I then got down on one knee and asked the love of my life to marry me. I’m still not sure what I said, all I can remember was the sigh of relief when she said yes. I’ll never forget those nervous butterflies I had built up all day and how, with one hug from the most special woman in the world, they all went away.
