We had just begun our freshman year at Washington & Jefferson College. Both members of the Inaugural class of the Washington Fellows Honors Program, we were invited to attend a TEDX talk in Pittsburgh. We both arrived early to Taylor Lot, the freshman parking lot on W&J's campus. We were introduced by the President of the College and stood around awkwardly waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. A bee began flying around us and stung Sam in the leg. As Sam once wrote, " I guess that bee was trying to solidify in my memory the moment that I got to know who would become two of the most influential people in my life." A few weeks later, I was visiting a friend in her dorm room when I noticed someone was knocking on the wall shared with the next room over. Never the shy gal, Iwalked over to the other dorm room, only to be met by laughter from Sam and others who would become some of our best friends. We stayed up late talking and getting to know one another. The rest is history...
