Taylor and Scarlett met serendipitously on a rainy fall night in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Scarlett, a city girl from Chicago, was finishing her Master’s at Harvard University, and Taylor, an outdoorsy Alaskan, was a Captain in the United States Air Force. Both were intently focused on pursuing their careers and figuring out God’s calling for their lives; they certainly were not focused on dating — that was, until Scarlett was invited to a church worship night by a friend whose selling point was, “You have to come, it’s right in between Harvard and MIT, so there are lots of high-earning potential men!” While Scarlett would only ever go to church for one man (Jesus), as she met eyes with another (Taylor), her heart skipped a beat. Taylor showed up late to that worship night, sneaking through the back door to avoid any chance of church small talk. He was there to relax, meditate, and catch up with good friends afterwards. Yet as he walked in, he heard a girl say, “Oh my gosh, is that Taylor?” He looked over and saw his old friend walking over to him with two of her girlfriends — one of them being Scarlett. As they locked eyes, time seemed to slow. Immediately, they recognized that something was different about each other. While they couldn’t put their finger on what it was, they both thought simultaneously, “Oh no, I’m in trouble.” They quickly became good friends, nerding out about history and theology for hours on end. Their mutual dorkiness budded into a romance, starting with a first date to ring in the new year. On their second, Taylor asked Scarlett to be his girlfriend (and asked if he could fly her to Maine for coffee — she said yes to both, obviously). From that point forward, life has not ceased being the greatest adventure. In the past year, they have visited 20 states together, moved cross-country to start new careers (Scarlett to Hawaii and Taylor to California), and fallen deeply in love with life, each other, and the One who brought them together: God. Cheesy love story aside, we are SO excited to celebrate with you all in Ireland next October! With our love being so epic, we figured it was only fair that the wedding itself mirror that — and what’s more epic than a medieval castle? Especially for two history nerds, one of whom is an Irish dual-citizen (Scarlett), this is a dream come true. We sincerely hope that everyone can join us and party like it’s 1199!
