I'm going to marry the coolest person I know this October! She moved to Atlanta from Florida, and I'd been in Atlanta for the majority of my life. We met at Grace Midtown Church and are part of the same small group. We were just friends for the first year of our relationship, then one day I just felt this urge to ask her out on a date. We went to a Zoe's after work one day, and it was honestly meh (she'd tell you the same). We were both exhausted, and just had typical small talk. Feeling like that wasn't really an accurate reflection of either of us, I asked her out again the following week for a "real date." It was really do or die, because if this date yielded the same result, then I'd know for sure it wasn't meant to be. We had dinner at General Muir (turns out we both have a love for good food and red wine) and then we went to see the Atlanta ballet. It was the most amazing "real first date" I've ever had and I knew I had to keep pursuing this woman. It's been the most amazing and rewarding adventure I could ask for!
We began the day on Saturday February 3 with a barre class followed by brunch. For anyone who knows me, these are two of my favorite activities on a Saturday and Yanic had been with me to barre previously (and hated it) so I found it a little suspicious when he volunteered to do it willingly with me this Saturday but I went with it. We got our workout on and then later brunched at my favorite spot, Sun in My Belly. That was already a perfect day in my book and we were then heading out to what I believed was a work function for Yanic. On the way, he asked me if he could pull the car over and show me a cool mural he had seen. I didn't care at all about making it to this work function on time so I said sure. We began to walk to Krog Street Tunnel where immediately we stopped in front of a mural and Yanic began explaining to me that he had it painted for me and what it represented to him - our stories of moving from Jamaica and Florida and meeting in Atlanta. He then proceeded to say some sweet things which I can't remember, get down on one knee and ask me to marry him! It was a perfect moment and even caught on camera by the best friend, Carly. Afterwards, I was freaking out to call my parents when Yanic surprised me with the fact they were in town! We met up with them and I thought the surprises were over. Later that night, he blew me away again with a surprise party at his parents house with our family and friends. It was truly the best day!
