The Proposal

As told by Christine

On April 7th, Joe met me in Aruba, since I had flown down early for some quality time with the Rodolico’s. Joe on the other hand showed up ready to party and immediately started to get drunk at the beach pier. That night while taking a shower, Joe said to me, “Tonight is a big night Christine” and my lovely response was, “Why? because you’re hammered on your first night in Aruba?”. Little did I know, before dinner that evening, when Joe asked me to take a picture in front of the Aruba sunset, that I would turn around to see a million cameras, iPads, cell phones etc. and turn back to find him down on one knee. My favorite person had asked me to marry him on my favorite island and I was speechless! Eventually I was able to form the words, “YES, now put the ring on”!!! I will never forget that day, or that feeling. Now almost a year later, we are 3 months away from saying “I do”. We are so grateful we were able to spend our proposal with so many friends and family but cannot wait to share our wedding day with all of you. See you all at the alter!

The Proposal

as told by Joe

It’s about 430 and I’m at the bar with Mario preparing for the big moment. Christine had gone up to the room to get ready for what she thought was a group dinner for our first night in Aruba. Little did she know that everyone in our 30 person dinner party was planning on pregaming on the beach where I would have the opportunity to propose. Anyways, Mario pressured me to have one more drink at happy hour and I was teetering on the line between buzzed and drunk, but I thought it would ease the nerves. And Mario was buying. So we drank our mai tai and as we were about to leave, the bartender gave us another one on the house. I went up to the room and could see my own drunk eyes in the mirror. I send out a Snapchat to my most trusted friends and asked if I looked too drunk. Not very encouraging responses, but I decided to continue on with the plan. So Christine dresses me like she always does and we go downstairs where everyone is waiting. My dad is walking by me and jokingly whispering “don’t do it. Biggest mistake of your life.” I’m trying to act normal, but on top of everyone anxiously waiting for the moment, I have a huge bulge in my pants. And on top of that, the ring box in my pocket is also bulging. So I decide it’s go time. I ask her to take pictures down by the water. We’re about halfway there when Christine turns and can see a mob of people (our stupid and beloved friends and family) following behind us, each holding a phone, iPad, microphone, camcorder.. you name it. So she stops and looks at me and I start fishing for the smaller of the two bulges and I finally get the ring out and get on a knee. I didn’t have the chance to say anything because she started crying. Just her, not me... I swear. So she says yes! Friends and family run over to celebrate. It was the best moment of my life followed by an unforgettable vacation. But because I never asked anything... does the proposal still count??
