Fairy tales love to call it love at first sight, but there’s a caveat: you only have a fifty-fifty chance. They are living proof of this statistic. Rob knew he was all in from the moment he laid his eyes on Jenn, while she had reservations and was good at playing hard to get. Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? Jenn and Rob knew of each other, but the COVID pandemic was a barrier to them ever meeting. With little thought, Jenn did not pursue any interest, while Rob talked to friends about her being “the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.” One of those friends he talked to was Andy. Andy was one of Jenn’s good friends in company, as well as one of Rob’s good friends through the Navy football managing staff. After kindly requesting that Andy put in a good word to Jenn for him, there was only fate left to decide. Jenn was talking to Andy one night when he put in a strong recommendation that she made the wrong decision and to reconsider giving Rob a chance. After hearing Andy describe Rob as a “kind-hearted, respectful, down-to-earth man” followed by “and he just bought a brand-new car that’s really nice”, Jenn decided that she might have been wrong. She immediately texted Rob. Jenn and Rob sent book-long text messages to each other for over two weeks before committing to their first date on October 11, 2020. Rob knew that Jenn was from Colorado and loved the outdoors, so he decided that their first date should be a hike. After a two hour drive full of talking, a hike full of talking, an ice cream date full of talking, and a two hour drive back full of talking, it would be impossible for someone to say that was the first day they had ever met. Their comfort stemmed from the fact that Jenn loves to talk and Rob loves to listen to Jenn talk. Time had passed by in the blink of an eye after diving into each other’s interests and passions. Jenn’s passion for running rubbed off on Rob so that after just three weeks of knowing Jenn, he wanted to run a marathon for his birthday (without any training). Jenn thinks to this day that he was trying to impress her. They shared so many passions: hiking, working out, watching too many movies (thanks to Rob), a passion to serve, snowboarding, camping, and time with family. After months of just “talking”, Jenn finally said yes to dating when Rob asked for the fourth time (fourth times the charm). If you were to ask Jenn in the first few months of knowing him that Rob would be the man that she would marry one day, she would have laughed. She was convinced that someone so gentle and kind was someone worth holding onto as a friend first. Little did she realize, she deserved someone as generous, loving, and selfless as Rob. After spending years together full of Jenn making Rob laugh and Rob supporting Jenn endlessly, some of their biggest milestones were shared. Rob committed to the Marine community and picked up a pilot slot, graduated from the Naval Academy, and then proposed to Jenn on August 27, 2022. There was absolutely no doubt in Jenn’s mind that her answer would be yes, and Rob knew this fact. Yet, his nerves still got the best of him and made for one of the most iconic and unexpected proposals she could have ever imagined. This is your que to ask Jenn if she knew that Rob was going to propose. The most breathtaking part of the proposal was no doubt: the ring. She never would have expected a family heirloom be reconstructed into her engagement ring that Rob designed himself. Jenn committed to the Marine community and chose a ground contract after Rob left for The Basic School. With some distance under their belt, they are beyond excited to meet June 20, 2023 with an open heart. Jenn and Rob grew a love that was built on a friendship first, and one that will last a lifetime.
