Reilly's Version: At the end of my junior year and Andrew's sophomore year, Andrew walked into my math class and was talking to our mutual friend. He immediately caught my eye and I was curious who this tall baseball player was. Apparently he was my math teacher's son. After awkwardly flirting at school events over the summer, our mutual friend (thank you Drew) invited him to a high school football game. From that night on we were talking non-stop and Andrew finally asked me to Homecoming. A week after homecoming, Andrew didn't ask me to be his girlfriend, but told me I was. Andrew's Version: Reilly and I were both freshmen mentors during my junior year and her senior year. Her best friend Alex was the head mentor of the homeroom I was part of. During a training session in the summer, I was talking with Alex when Reilly came to hangout with her. My interest was immediately peaked and I spent the rest of the day hanging out with them. I eventually got Reilly's number and started laying the foundation of what would become the greatest friendship I've ever had. I built up the courage to ask her to homecoming and assumed it was a given that we were exclusive and dating at that point. Apparently not. Reilly asked me when I was going to ask her to be my girlfriend to which I responded "I thought we already were?" and then it was officially official.
Reilly's Version I went to Springfield College in Massachusetts and Andrew went to UVA. While we were trying to navigate our lives with the distance and different schedules we decided it would be best to take care of ourselves and go our separate ways. Through this time, Andrew continued to be my best friend and biggest supporter. Covid hit and we were both back in our childhood homes (which were 3 streets away from each other). Finally, we realized we were meant to be together. Andrew's Version Being a year younger in school, Reilly and I went through the very tough phase of becoming a long distance relationship when she went to college in Massachusetts and I was still in Virginia. Between the distance and the messy schedules that we were both juggling, we decided it would be best to focus on ourselves and went our separate ways. The separation did not prevent us from texting daily, supporting each other, and spending every waking moment together when we were on breaks from school. the non-relationship relationship continued until the start of my 3rd Year of college and her Senior year when we realized that it was complete nonsense to pretend we were just friends. We made ourselves official (even though we already had been realistically) and haven't wavered ever since.
Reilly's Version I graduated in 2021 and moved back to Midlothian. Luckily it was only an hour drive to UVA so I could visit every weekend and Andrew's roommate wasn't too annoyed with me (I think). After Andrew graduated, we moved to Charlottesville together. I said we wouldn't get a dog for at least 6 months, but within a week living together, we adopted our dog, Bear. About a year later we decided Bear needed a yard, so we bought our first house in Ruckersville and are loving the country living! When I'm not teaching my 7th graders and Andrew isn't playing with his surgical toys, we are at UVA games, exploring breweries and wineries, and working on many house projects. Andrew's Version As my 4th year of college entered its final semester, Reilly and I began planning out our next phase of life. We ended up landing jobs in Charlottesville, which made relocating pretty simple. We found an apartment, loaded the U-Haul, and embarked on the most exciting journey we had been on yet. Weekends together turned into spending every day by each others side. It only took a week to realize something was missing and welcomed our dog Bear into the mix (he is the greatest dog you'll ever meet). After a year we bought our first house and have been building a never ending list of projects since!
Reilly's Version Andrew spent the fall of 2023 scheming with my sister to plan the perfect proposal. My whole family tricked me into thinking Andrew hadn't bought the ring yet so when he told me he was taking me horseback riding through a vineyard, I was not happy because that would have been the most perfect proposal. Let's just say there were tears and I begged him to change the date so when he did have the ring he could propose to me this way. He came up with many excuses and somehow everyone kept the secret. After the morning of me joking around about him having a ring in his pocket we were sitting out having a glass of wine at Veritas Winery. Next thing I know, Andrew is giving a proposal speech and I tell him to stop because "it's not funny" but he gets down on one knee and pulls out the ring. I had never been more surprised in my life! Andrew's Version The proposal process was one of the more exciting and stressful things that I have gone through in my life. The entire time, I wanted to tell Reilly about the rings I was looking at, the proposal ideas I was coming up with, and the timing of it all and she was the one person I couldn't tell. I saved as aggressively as I could, and with the help of her sister and grandparents, I got the ring that I hoped would be perfect. From there it was all about the proposal. Abby and I came up with the idea to plan a bunch of extravagant "dummy" dates to make her think the proposal was way off in the future when in reality it was only weeks away. I booked a private horseback tour of Veritas Vineyard and all that was left to do was wait. Each passing day became more exciting and more stressful as I prayed she wouldn't stumble across the ring hidden in our office. The day of the proposal she even tried checking my pockets! As the moment got closer I got more and more nervous and excited. I got down on a knee and asked her to marry me. Reilly tried to ruin the moment by yelling at me for doing a fake proposal until she saw the ring and realized the moment was actually here. The rest of the day was a blur of happiness.
