Grandad Bluff has become not only a destination point for thousands, but also a symbol of this great Coulee Region. La Crosse’s recent renovation (completed in April of 2012) showed the importance and grandeur of Grandad Bluff to all who visit! Grandad Bluff is a city park located by following Main Street east which becomes Bliss Road (small vehicle only) as you ascend the bluff. At the top, the entrance is found by turning right on Grandad Bluff Road. The 600-ft high bluff overlooks the city of La Crosse. The view of the Mississippi River Valley includes the three states of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. Wisconsin Trails readers voted this “the most scenic view in the state”. The park features a shelter house, coin-operated binoculars, picnic areas and is the site of the annual Skyrocker`s New Year`s Eve Fireworks Show. EveryJuly, there is a race all the way up to the top of the bluff.
Reid and Ashley have gone on some of their favorite dates here. It is located right on the Mississippi River. There is a beautiful patio with live music on the weekends. The seasonal menu features fresh seafood and delicious steaks.
The La Crosse Children's Museum is fun for all ages! Since 1999, the museum has welcomed over 1 million visitors. There is a rock wall, shadow room, tons of science experiments, and many opportunities for imaginary play. Admission is $7.50.
The Great River Landing in Onalaska, WI plays host to the trailhead of the Great River State Trail with showers and locker rooms for bicyclists enjoying the 101 miles of interconnecting state trails. During the winter months, users can enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing. The landing also offers beautiful views of the surrounding area including Lake Onalaska.
Buzzard Billy's is a fun and local restaurant in downtown La Crosse. This is a cajun style restaurant for the whole family. You can even try alligator! After hours, head upstairs to one of Reid and Ashley's favorite martini bars. This lounge has live jazz music most nights and you'll love the retro 60's decor.
